Celebrating Timeless Elegance at Perak Fashion Week 2024

Returning after a pandemic-induced hiatus, Perak Fashion Week 2024 unfolded with flair at AEON Mall Kinta City on Sunday, 27th October 2024.

Organised by the Malaysia Events and Festivals Association (MEFA) and led by its chairman, the talented designer and make-up artist Melvin Chan, this event marked the second official Perak Fashion Week since its launch in 2018. This year’s gathering showcased a distinctive mix of talent, highlighting Perak’s fashion innovation.

Melvin Chan himself opened the show with the striking theme “Men in Black,” setting a sophisticated, minimalist tone that captivated audiences. His collection of sharply tailored black dresses displayed refine elegance, creating a sleek and polished beginning to the two-hour spectacle.

Next on the runway was Chic N Sleek, an established name since 1983, founded by designer Christie P’ng. Her Chinese-inspired dinnerwear brought a rich blend of traditional motifs and modern design, breathing fresh life into formal wear with unique cuts and elegant embellishments that celebrated timeless style.

The spotlight then turned to Two L by Chen QianYi, who specialises in trendy, chic attire for plus-size women. Her designs embraced both comfort and style, championing inclusivity on the runway, proving that fashion’s appeal knows no bounds in terms of size. Two L has a store at AEON MALL Kinta City, Ipoh.

Coline Jane Peter, an up-and-coming designer from Sabah, brought cultural diversity to the showcase with pieces inspired by her traditional roots. Her collection was a colourful and intricate tribute to her heritage, weaving Sabah’s artisanal influences into modern silhouettes that held the audience’s rapt attention.

Finally, Lester Yim Couture closed the show with a dramatic collection that embraced mystery and intrigue. The collection’s dark theme and hauntingly beautiful music backdrop created a strikingly bold finish, solidifying Lester Yim’s signature style as both thought-provoking and visually captivating.

Melvin Chan aspires Perak Fashion Week as a platform to bring local talent to the forefront, encouraging Perak-based designers to shine alongside those from larger fashion hubs like Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

With this aspiration, the event offered a valuable opportunity for Perak fashion designers to exhibit their work, inspire the community, and foster creative growth in the region.

Supported by Tourism Perak, Perak Fashion Week 2024 drew a crowd of over 1,000 guests, including 250 VIPs from across Malaysia. The runway featured 10 professional models from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Penang, who brought the designers’ creations to life with elegance and grace.
