It was an evening of glamour and glitter at the International IPOH Fashion Week (IIFW) 2017 charity gala dinner last Friday. The 3-day IIFW 2017, brainchild of Mr. Louis Sebastian and wife Ms. Adeline Khan, was hosted in Ipoh in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017.
Held for the first time in Perak, this fashion week was unlike any other as it was a charity event to raise funds for Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun’s paediatric oncology unit. The organisers managed to raise RM40,000 within a short period of time.
During the charity gala dinner, Mona Shroff Jewellery Hong Kong donated a one-of-a-kind 18-22k gold-plated necklace with semi-precious stones from Brazil and Madagascar. The necklace, handmade in Brazil, was placed on the auction block and fetched RM7,000.
Of course, when it comes to medical expenses, there is never enough money, especially for childhood cancer. Treatment is long-drawn and takes an average of three years to successfully treat a child patient.
For general information, the Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun’s paediatric oncology unit sees 50 – 60 new patients a year, which translates to a new patient a week. Therefore, members of the public are strongly urged to continue to support the cause.
Besides bringing together top designers from overseas with the participation of designers from Australia, China, India, Singapore and Indonesia, IIFW provided a platform for local talents to showcase their work at an international level.
The fashion runway programmes where designers presented their collections were:
Day 1: Elegant & Evening and Jewellery
Day 2: Hijab & Modern Islamic, Traditional & Cultural Clothing
Day 3: Pret-a-Porter (ready-to-wear) / Accessories / Makeup, Hairdo show by Top Stylists, Casual, Sports / Sports Accessories
With the success of this inaugural IIFW™, it could soon be a signature event in Malaysia. Let’s check out some of my photos from the charity gala dinner.
