International Ipoh Fashion Week 2017 (IIFW ’17) Grand Launch

With the grand launch of International Ipoh Fashion Week (IIFW) 2017, the city is all abuzz with its first ever international fashion event to be hosted in Ipoh! This international-scale glamorous celebration of fashion, to be held in October from 6th to 8th, will see the participation of fashion designers and professional models of world standard.

At this point in time, thirty industry players from countries such as South Africa, Kazakhstan, China, Laos, Cambodia, Pakistan, India, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia and Singapore have already voiced their interest to showcase their designs. Celebrity guests and performers will also feature in the event’s exclusive line-up.

The inaugural three-day event, held in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017 World of Wonders campaign, is a key event in the state. It will kickoff with a gala dinner on Day 1 with the theme “Night of Glamour and Glitter” at Syeun Hotel Ipoh, hosted by Tourism Perak.

Day 2 will see Runway Fashion Showcase featuring Islamic Fashion and Modern Cultural Fashion. Held at Syeun Hotel, it starts from 8pm until 11pm.

Meanwhile, planned for Day 3 is the unique Closing Runway Pret-a-Porter (ready-to-wear) Fashion Showcase. Hosted by Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) and Kumpulan Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNP) in conjunction with Kumpulan PKNP’s 50th anniversary, it will naturally be held at MAPS, Asia’s first animation theme park.

The above information is all well and good. Moreover, October seems like quite a number of months away. The important question is, how can YOU get involved in this international event, one that is by Perakians for fellow Perakians?

Fashion designers
If you are a fashion designer born in Perak, based in the state or somehow have roots in Perak, you are invited to showcase your talent during IIFW 2017, to the world! Submit your portfolio to the organisers via the IIFW official website latest by 14th July, 2017.

Casting call
IIFW 2017 is an excellent platform for aspiring models to gain experience and take the first step into the world of international fashion modelling. IIFW Model Casting is scheduled for Sunday, 21st May, 2017, with the objective to uncover local talent and new faces. Selected models will undergo several workshops and basic training provided by IIFW partners in preparation to walk the runway during IIFW.

Fashion Photography Workshop & Competition
A lead-up event to IIFW is a fashion photography workshop and competition. It is scheduled for August 2017. More details will be released in due time via IIFW’s official website and social media channels. Stay tuned.

Beneficiary
IIFW 2017 serves as a platform to generate funds for the benefit of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun’s Paediatric Care Unit as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. A portion of the ticket sales and Gala Dinner table sales will be donated towards this charitable cause.

According to Dato’ Dr Amar Singh, Head of Paediatric Department at Hospital RPB Ipoh, the Paediatric Oncology service of the Paediatric Department at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh caters for both out and in patients for Perak and the northern region. Much of the work is done as ambulatory care (daycare) but more seriously ill children (immunosuppressed) are warded. There is also a follow-up clinic for long-term survivors.

On average, 65 – 80 children with a malignancy will present each year in Perak. Around 25 of these will be children with leukaemia, 8 – 10 with a brain tumour and 8 – 10 with a lymphoma. The majority (80%) can be effectively treated with chemotherapy and enjoy a full life span. Although the number of new patients each year is not too large, the intensity of care is very high. There are between 2000 – 3000 visits by these children each year, with 2500 procedures being conducted.

In short, the Paediatric Department at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun welcomes the care of the public in supporting these children and their families in their time of need.

IIFW 2017 enjoys full support from the Perak state government as well as from Tourism Perak Management Berhad. Perak has been the state with the highest domestic travellers of at least 7 million arrivals per year, for four consecutive years. For 2017, the state’s target is ten million domestic arrivals, a figure that is not too far-fetched, in view of the launch of Movie Animation Park Studios (MAPS) on 26th June and IIFW in October, two major crowd drawers.
