Deepavali Comes Alive at Sunway Theme Parks

A celebration of light, colour, and community brings the spirit of Deepavali to life.

On 1st and 2nd November 2024, Sunway Theme Parks invited guests to immerse themselves in the vibrant festivities of Deepavali at Sunway Lagoon in Selangor and Sunway Lost World of Tambun in Ipoh.

The two-day celebration highlighted the magic and joy of the Festival of Lights, offering a blend of captivating performances, delicious cuisine, hands-on activities, and heartwarming community initiatives.

Mesmerising Performances and a Dazzling Fireworks Finale

Guests were treated to a series of stunning cultural performances, featuring iconic Indian dance forms such as the Peacock Dance, Bharatanatyam, and lively Bhangra routines. The colourful displays were a feast for the senses, with traditional costumes and dynamic movements to captivate audiences.

The event ended with spectacular finales at both parks. Sunway Lagoon presented an unforgettable night display with Flying Diyas and Malaysia’s largest musical fireworks show, while Sunway Lost World of Tambun wowed guests with a Flaming Percussion performance followed by its own impressive musical fireworks, illuminating the night sky with brilliance.

A Culinary Journey Through Indian Flavours

For food enthusiasts, Deepavali at Sunway was a feast for both the eyes and the palate. Live cooking demonstrations showcased a variety of beloved Indian dishes, including the crispy Pani Puri, spicy Chole Bhatura, and the sweet, sticky indulgence of Jalebi. The aroma of masala tea and freshly made murukku filled the air, inviting guests to savour the rich flavours and experience the essence of Indian cuisine firsthand.

Interactive Crafts and Family Fun Activities

In keeping with Deepavali’s spirit of creativity, both parks featured engaging craft stations. Children delighted in activities like Henna DIY and Diya Origami Craft, while families enjoyed creating Rangoli Sand Art plus traditional Mallipoo garlands.

Sunway Lost World of Tambun offered an eco-friendly twist with an activity for crafting recycled oil lamps from bottles and cooking oil, encouraging sustainability as part of the celebration.

Giving Back: A Special CSR Partnership with CUCKOO Malaysia

As part of the festivities, Sunway partnered with CUCKOO Malaysia to bring the joy of Deepavali to children from local homes. On 1st November, children from Rainbow Children Home in Perak joined the fun at Sunway Lost World of Tambun, while those from Rumah KIDS, Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home, and Pertubuhan Kebajikan Anak Yatim Mary in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur enjoyed the festivities at Sunway Lagoon on 2nd November.

The children were treated to an Indian buffet featuring festive dishes like Biryani Rice, Chicken Masala, and Mutton Varuval, ensuring a memorable experience filled with flavours and fun.

CUCKOO Malaysia also extended its generosity by donating a Queen Stand Water Purifier to each home, embodying the spirit of giving that defines Deepavali.
