Family-Friendly Dining at The Humble Food Company Bangi
Are you looking for a restaurant in Bangi where everyone can find something they love? From Malaysian favourites with a twist to hearty Western comfort food, The Humble Food Company Bangi offers a menu with plenty of choices for families, friends, and groups of all ages.
Located at Ostia Bangi Business Avenue, the restaurant was recently visited by FB Live host Nizril for an hour-long food review. Besides sampling the food and gathering feedback from fellow diners, he also had a casual chat with Puan Farizan Majid Ali, Managing Director and CEO of The Humble Food Group of Companies.

The conversation offered a glimpse into the restaurant’s food philosophy, its journey through the challenging early days, and the systems behind its growing F&B business.
Laksa Goreng: A Signature Dish
Nizril’s food review began with the restaurant’s signature Laksa Goreng. Before taking his first bite, he liberally squeezed the accompanying lime over the noodles and mixed the juice in. The result? A mouthful of flavours that immediately caught his attention.
The dish brought together a pleasing balance of sweet, savoury, spicy and smoky notes. The combination worked beautifully, giving the familiar laksa noodles a different character. It was a reminder that Malaysian flavours can be presented in many interesting ways, and this stir-fried interpretation makes a refreshing alternative to the usual soup noodle dish.
While Nizril enjoyed his Laksa Goreng, his four teenage dining companions had their own preferences.
Their choices included:
.
The variety of dishes on the table reflected one of the restaurant’s strengths. Whether someone prefers pasta, burgers, chicken or local-inspired flavours, there is something to suit different appetites.
Top Five Chef’s Recommendations
For first-time visitors wondering what to order, here are five dishes recommended by the chef. These selections showcase the restaurant’s Asian and Western menus, offering a delicious introduction to its local flavours and fusion comfort food.

Laksa Goreng
The signature dish is a must-try for anyone who enjoys Malaysian flavours with a twist. Stir-fried laksa noodles offer a distinctive combination of sweet, savoury, spicy, and smoky flavours, making this a memorable alternative to conventional pasta or fried noodles. Nizril gave this two thumbs up.
Kam Heong Fried Rice
A popular choice among diners who enjoy bold local flavours, Kam Heong Fried Rice delivers the aromatic, savoury character of Kam Heong in a rice dish. It is a good option for those who prefer something familiar yet flavourful.
Lasagna
For Western comfort food lovers, Lasagna is a hearty choice. It reflects the restaurant’s original aim of making satisfying Western meals more affordable, allowing diners to enjoy these favourites without having to reserve them for special occasions.
Buttermilk Chicken Rice
Creamy buttermilk sauce, chicken and rice make a memorable combination. This dish is ideal for those who enjoy a familiar meal with a rich, creamy sauce.
The Humble Mac
Macaroni and cheese gets an interesting twist with a little heat. The restaurant describes its gentle spicy kick as “pedas manja”, giving this familiar comfort food a personality of its own. Prefer something milder? A non-spicy version is also available, so even those who are not fond of chilli can enjoy this creamy, cheesy favourite.
Exclusive to Bangi: The Classic Cheeseburger
Burger enthusiasts may want to pay particular attention to the Classic Cheeseburger. This is a signature item exclusive to The Humble Food Company Bangi and is not available at the other outlets.
With its thick beef patty, cheesy goodness, and generous serving, the Classic Cheeseburger is one of the dishes that makes the Bangi outlet stand out. Indeed, it is a satisfying choice for those who appreciate a substantial burger.
Chicken Chop with a Generous Portion
The Chicken Chop is another dish that deserves an honourable mention. According to the restaurant, the chicken portion weighs at least 220g, offering diners a fulfilling serving of crispy chicken. It comes with two sides and a sauce, making it a satisfying meal for those who enjoy a good chicken chop.
For diners who appreciate generous portions, this is another dish worth considering.
What Customers Have to Say
Customer feedback is an important part of The Humble Food Company’s efforts to improve its food and service. During Nizril’s visit, a regular customer shared a positive experience after returning for another serving of Laksa Goreng.
The feedback highlighted the delicious food, tender beef patty, and soft, fresh burger bun. The customer also appreciated the quick service, with the meal served in less than 10 minutes.

It is always encouraging to hear from returning diners, particularly when they are happy enough with their experience to recommend the restaurant to others. The Humble Food Company Bangi has also received a 4.8-star rating on Google Maps, reflecting the positive feedback from customers at large.

Making Western Fusion Meals More Accessible
The Humble Food Company was established by four friends who share a vision of making good Western fusion meals more affordable and accessible.
For Puan Farizan, the inspiration came partly from her experience studying overseas. She enjoyed the availability of Western meals while abroad, but upon returning to Malaysia, she felt that a good Western meal could be relatively expensive, especially for those who wanted to enjoy it regularly.

Interestingly, the founders came from different backgrounds and had studied in different parts of the world, but they shared a common goal. They wanted to make Western-inspired meals more accessible without compromising on quality.
For the company, affordability must go hand in hand with tasty food, satisfying portions, and proper food safety practices. It is about ensuring that customers feel they have enjoyed a worthwhile meal and received good value for the money they had spent.
From Crunching Numbers to Crafting Culinary Experiences
Puan Farizan’s journey into the F&B industry was preceded by a career in accounting and finance. A chartered accountant, she spent three years in audit with PwC before joining PETRONAS, where she worked for seven years until 2019. Her experience included project accounting, group accounts and finance, internal controls and governance.
Her financial background has provided a useful foundation for running the business, particularly in managing costs, establishing systems and understanding how business decisions affect long-term sustainability.
Although the food and beverage industry brought a completely different set of challenges, the knowledge she gained through her professional career continues to be valuable.
A Challenging Start to the Business
The Humble Food Company launched its brand in March 2020, just before Malaysia’s first COVID-19 Movement Control Order came into effect on 18 March. Within the first week or so of the lockdown, revenue across the chain fell by approximately 95%.
The company had just taken its delivery channels offline to concentrate on dine-in operations. When the lockdown began, the team had to quickly reactivate its online channels and make updated menus available.
It was a difficult period, with the business facing uncertainty while resources were already stretched. The team had to reassess its priorities and determine where its limited resources could make the greatest difference. Through teamwork and a willingness to adapt, the business gradually stabilised.
Looking back, Puan Farizan described that period as one of the most stressful yet personally fulfilling experiences of her entrepreneurial journey.
The experience taught her valuable lessons about resilience, prioritising resources and finding a way forward when circumstances are far from ideal.
Culture Matters When Growing a Business
As The Humble Food Company expanded, Puan Farizan realised that one of the most significant challenges was building a strong company culture. Procedures for recruitment, training, food consistency and cost management are important. However, she believes that employees must also understand the reasons behind these practices.
The company’s focus remains on creating value for customers. As the business grows, it is important for team members to share the same mindset and make thoughtful decisions, even when management is not physically present.
Taking care of employees is equally important. Puan Farizan believes that a happy and well-supported team is better equipped to look after customers. This philosophy also influences the company’s use of technology, which helps reduce repetitive manual work and allows employees to focus more on food preparation and service.
Technology and Preparation Behind the Scenes
One area where The Humble Food Company feels it has made significant progress is the use of technology in its operations. The company utilises various systems, including its point-of-sale (POS) system and Food Market Hub (FMH) as its digital procurement and inventory automation platform to manage back-end operations.
Its latest development involves upgrading its systems to incorporate AI chatbots. The aim is to improve efficiency, reduce repetitive tasks and support smoother business operations.
However, technology is only one part of the equation. Puan Farizan also emphasised the importance of preparation and planning in the kitchen. Proper preparation helps ensure that service remains efficient and consistent, whether the restaurant is busy during peak hours or quieter at other times.
For diners, this translates into a more reliable experience, with food arriving promptly and service remaining consistent.

Besides this Bangi restaurant, The Humble Food Company currently has outlets in Damansara Perdana, Shah Alam, and Kelana Jaya.
When asked if there were plans to expand beyond the Klang Valley, Puan Farizan shared that the company had yet to identify a specific location for its next outlet. Before entering a new market, the team wants to understand the local customer base and ensure that the right people and systems are in place to maintain consistent food quality and service.
Nonetheless, the company remains open to opportunities, while prioritising sustainable growth at a pace that allows it to maintain the standards it has established.
