3000 Ipoh Residents Participate in the 59th Edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day
It was a Sunday morning buzzing with healthy activities when some 3,000 Ipoh residents joined in the fun of the monthly Ipoh Car-Free Day (ICFD) programme. The event is hosted along Persiaran Bandaraya in front of the Ipoh City Council building, every last Sunday of the month.
For this 59th edition, the theme was “Our World, Our Peaceful Future” in conjunction with World Thinking Day, which is celebrated annually on 22nd February by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts organisations around the world. It was officiated by Ipoh City Council Secretary Tuan Ahmad Munir bin Ishak who represented the Mayor.
The highlight of the morning was the Breakfast Fun Run & Walk which attracted a strong 300 entrants. All who crossed the finishing line received a medal and a McDonald’s breakfast comprising a McD burger, as well as nasi lemak, Milo, a can of 100 Plus, and a bottle of mineral water.
As usual, government agencies and non-governmental departments, non-profit organisations, and even individuals, manned booths to disseminate information or showcase interesting activities to meet the objectives of the Low Carbon City Challenge 2030 (LCC2030C) to create a community that cares about cleaner, greener, and smarter living.
Persatuan Gema Perak put up a “whiteboard and sticky note” event that encouraged visitors to contribute innovative ideas that can reduce carbon emissions in daily life. It received an encouraging response from the public.
Meanwhile, the Corporate Department of the Ipoh City Council (MBI) implemented a Customer Meeting Programme, or a Customer Satisfaction Study for MBI via the scanning of a QR Code. This is an ongoing initiative to receive feedback from Ipohites on service improvement for the city council.
SOCSO had a booth that explained to visitors the benefits and coverage of the Self-Employment Social Security Scheme and Housewives Social Security Scheme that were newly introduced. The staff also assisted with applications from new contributors.
During the same ICFD programme, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) under its AMANITA Unit (Skuad Aman Wanita) held an educational exhibition related to safety measures specifically for women, should they be victims of crime.
