29th Edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day Attracts 7,500!

The 29th edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day attracted some 7,500 residents, participants and visitors to its usual venue, along Jalan Raja DiHilir yesterday morning.

Besides promoting a lower carbon footprint lifestyle on car-free day, it is also an event to celebrate special days that fall within the same month. This April, there are many occasions to observe. They are:
1 Apr – April Fool’s Day
2 Apr – World Autism Awareness Day
7 Apr – World Health Day
12 Apr – International Day of Human Space Flight
15 Apr – Day of Silence
15 Apr – Day of Dialogue
17 Apr – World Hemophilia Day
22 Apr – Earth Day
23 Apr – World Book Day
25 Apr – World Malaria Day
25 Apr – World Penguin Day
26 Apr – World Intellectual Property Day
29 Apr – International Dance Day
30 Apr – International Jazz Day

Phew! What a long list, eh? Among the activities lined up were painting and colouring competition, health check up, recycling awareness campaign, archery, street soccer, aerobics, and many more.

According to Ipoh City Council Planning Director Zulqarnain Mohamad, Ipoh Car-Free Day is expected to make Ipoh a low-carbon city and encourage the people of Ipoh to relax on Sunday morning.

The event is also anticipated to enhance the Index of Happiness among Ipoh residents by creating awareness on the environment, health, security, history and legacy of Ipoh City.
