YOU Wings – Pioneering Ipoh Tour Gala Dinner
Despite still awaiting the green light to service the Ipoh-Medan air route from Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, YOU Wings, previously Flying Fox Airways, wasted no time in introducing Ipoh delights to Medan travel agents to facilitate them in “selling” Ipoh to tourists from the Indonesian city.
Bringing 41 top travel agents from Medan, Indonesia, on a 4D/3N tour of Perak, these guests were able to experience the state for themselves. Granted, the trip may be rather short, but they were still able to visit tourist icons such as Kellie’s Castle in Batu Gajah, Ubudiah Mosque and Gallery Sultan Azlan Shah in Kuala Kangsar as well as Ipoh’s Lost World of Tambun and Perak Cave Temple, just to name a few places.
Food was of course one of the highlights of the tour and they managed to try some of the best curry dishes from Assam House and fresh seafood from Tanjung Tualang.
According to the Chairman of YOU Wings, Dato’ Hakim Hamidi, it is the company’s mission to make flying easier by establishing more flight opportunities at affordable costs. With the objective of creating more inbound tourists to Perak, whether for vacation or healthcare purposes, the availability of the Ipoh airport is of primary concern. Medan is the first city in the plan, with Shenzhen and Guangzhou in China and Dhaka in Bangladesh as future destinations.
Meanwhile, State Executive Councillor for Health, Tourism and Culture YB Dato’ Nolee Ashilin lauded YOU Wings for this effort to strengthen ties with Medan, believing Perak’s untapped potential could draw more tourists to the state and contribute significantly to tourist arrivals in the country in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2014. During her speech and at the subsequent press conference, she stressed the importance of a smooth cooperation between the state government and private sector in building Perak to be an international tourist destination.
The gala dinner, to welcome these delegates from Medan, was also attended by YOU Wings partners, sponsors, MATTA members and other players of the tourism industry in Perak.
