A North Indian Culinary Exploration at ROTI by d’Tandoor
In the heart of Kampung Datuk Keramat, Kuala Lumpur, the Halal-certified ROTI by d’Tandoor offers a rich dining experience that highlights the flavours of North Indian cuisine.

As part of Malaysia’s largest North Indian restaurant chain, this establishment takes pride in its meticulous approach to food and service, earning accolades that include the prestigious Michelin Guide Bib Gourmand Award in 2024.

We recently had the privilege of savouring the culinary treasures of ROTI by d’Tandoor, and the experience was nothing short of exceptional.
A Table of North Indian Delights
As a starter, the Vegetable Pakora delighted with its light and crispy texture. These mildly spiced fritters, deep-fried to golden perfection, were a satisfying prelude to the feast.

Our feast began with Garlic Butter Naan, a North Indian speciality bread made from refined flour dough, beautifully topped with finely chopped garlic, coriander, and melted butter. Its subtle garlic aroma paired perfectly with the rich Butter Chicken Masala, a signature dish originating from the Punjab region. The tender chicken was braised in a velvety spiced gravy of cream, tomatoes and butter, a true comfort food that tantalised the palate.

For a simpler accompaniment, the Plain Naan provided a softer, neutral pairing, balancing the bold flavours of dishes like Fish Methi. This hearty fish fillet curry, infused with spices and earthy fenugreek leaves, stood out with its unique blend of depth and warmth.

Another star of the spread was the Dhall Tarkha, a creamy lentil dish cooked with aromatics, tomatoes and spices. The crowning touch was the “tadka” – a fragrant tempering of chillies, garlic, and other spices – which elevated the dish to another level.
Tandoori, Briyani, and More
The Tandoori Chicken Sizzling arrived on a hot platter, its smoky aroma captivating the senses. Marinated in yoghurt and spices, the tender meat was cooked to perfection. Tandoori got its name from the traditional tandoor oven, where the chicken was traditionally cooked.
Opting for a half-bird portion, we enjoyed the juicy, flavourful layers of this classic dish.

The briyani selection was equally memorable, showcasing ROTI by d’Tandoor’s mastery of rice-based dishes. The Bamboo Briyani Chicken and Bamboo Briyani Lamb were steamed in bamboo pipes sealed with green leaves, allowing the fragrant basmati grains to absorb the earthy essence of bamboo.

For those seeking indulgence, the Lamb Shank Briyani was the ultimate treat. The lamb, slow-cooked until tender, detached from the bone easily, its rich flavours perfectly complementing the delicately spiced Basmathi rice garnished with coriander and cashew nuts.

Sweet Endings with Northern Indian Fruit Custard
To finish the meal, the Fruit Custard offered a light, refreshing dessert. A Northern Indian speciality, this creamy blend of chilled custard and seasonal fruits brought a sweet yet subtle end to a flavour-packed dining experience. The custard’s smooth texture and the natural sweetness of the fruits provided a delightful balance after the bold and aromatic mains.
An Experience to Remember
ROTI by d’Tandoor’s reputation for excellence is well deserved. From the refined preparation of its dishes to its welcoming ambience, this restaurant delivers a dining experience that reflects the rich culinary traditions of North India. ROTI by d’Tandoor is a must-visit destination for food lovers seeking authentic flavours.

We were invited to experience ROTI by d’Tandoor as a delegate of the #LepakKLLah Siri 2 familiarisation trip, organised by Gaya Travel Magazine and hosted by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL). This unforgettable journey into the heart of North Indian cuisine left me eager to return for more, either being there personally or getting hold of one of their many “ready-to-eat” (RTE) meal packs, which simply require heating up before serving.
