Perak State-Level Vaisakhi Day 2026 Draws Thousands in a Celebration of Faith, Culture & Unity
The Perak State-Level Vaisakhi Day 2026 celebration was held in a lively and heartwarming atmosphere at the Ipoh Convention Centre (ICC) on 25 April 2026. The large-scale open house celebration drew more than 5,000 visitors from both within and outside Perak, turning the venue into a vibrant meeting point of culture, faith, music, and food.

Families, community leaders, youth groups, and visitors from various backgrounds gathered under one roof to celebrate one of the most important occasions in the Sikh calendar. The event reflected not only the strong unity within the Sikh community but also the multicultural harmony that continues to define Malaysia.
Vaisakhi, also commonly known as Vesakhi, is celebrated annually in April and holds deep significance for Sikhs around the world. This year, Vaisakhi falls on 14 April.

The occasion commemorates the formation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh Ji in 1699, a historic event that shaped Sikh identity and values. It represents courage, equality, justice, selfless service, and devotion to faith.
At the same time, Vaisakhi is also celebrated as a harvest festival, marking the beginning of a new season in the Sikh Nanakshahi calendar. Traditionally, it is a time to give thanks for blessings, prosperity, and the fruits of labour.
For the Sikh community, the celebration is not only religious in nature but also steeped in culture, family ties, and community service.
A Long-Standing Sikh Presence in Perak
Perak has long shared a close connection with the Sikh community, which has contributed greatly to the state’s social and economic development over generations.
Today, there are 39 gurdwaras throughout Perak, serving as centres for worship, education, charity, and community activities. The oldest gurdwara in the state is located in Taiping, reflecting the rich historical roots of Sikh heritage in Perak dating back many decades.
These institutions continue to play an important role in preserving traditions while fostering unity among younger generations.
Support for the Sikh Community
The Perak State-Level Vaisakhi Day 2026 was graced by several distinguished guests and government representatives, led by YB Dato’ Sivanesan Achalingam, Chairman of the Perak State Health, Human Resources, National Integration and Indian Community Affairs Committee.

Also present were YB Tuan Azlan Helmi Bin Helmi, Chairman of the Perak State Communications, Multimedia and NGO Committee; CP Dato’ Noor Hisam Nordin, Perak Police Chief; Tuan Swaran Singh, Special Secretary to the Perak Menteri Besar; YB Shasha Veraiah, ADUN Malim Nawar; and Tuan Zulhisham Bin Ahmad Shukori, Kinta District Officer.

Their attendance reflected the state government’s continued support for cultural diversity and inclusivity in Perak.
During the celebration, appreciation was expressed towards the Perak State Government for its ongoing recognition of the Sikh community’s contributions to the state.

A total of RM530,000 had been channelled thus far in 2026 to several Gurdwara Sahibs and Sikh non-governmental organisations (NGOs) throughout Perak. The support is aimed at strengthening welfare initiatives, community programmes, and the upkeep of Sikh institutions across the state.
The gesture was warmly welcomed by the community, reflecting the importance of mutual respect and cooperation in a multicultural society.
Collective Effort Behind the Successful Celebration
The event was organised through the joint efforts of the Perak Sikh coordinating team, Sikh welfare organisations, gurdwaras, and community volunteers.

The organising chairman, Mr Baldip Singh, together with Perak Sikh Community Welfare Organisation (PKMSP) chairman Mr Malvinderjit Singh and various Sikh NGOs, worked tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the celebration.

The strong turnout at the Perak State-Level Vaisakhi Open House 2026 was made possible through the untiring efforts of Mr Khuswindera Singh, Vice Chairperson II of the Ipoh District Youth Council, who also served on the Publicity, Media, Press, and Protocol Committee for the celebration. His dedication and commitment to promoting the event and coordinating various aspects of publicity played an important role in attracting guests and ensuring the smooth success of the grand gathering.

The positive response to the programme highlighted the strength of volunteerism and the close-knit nature of the Sikh community in Perak.
Colourful Cultural Performances
Guests were treated to a vibrant line-up of performances throughout the event. Traditional Punjabi Giddha dance performances drew enthusiastic responses from the crowd, while local artistes added excitement and entertainment to the programme.
The performances created an energetic and festive atmosphere, giving attendees a glimpse into the richness of Punjabi culture and traditions.

Children, families, and seniors alike could be seen enjoying the cultural showcases, further strengthening the open and welcoming nature of the event.
No Vaisakhi celebration would be complete without food, and this open house offered an impressive variety of traditional Punjabi dishes for visitors to enjoy.

Guests were served favourites such as chapati with dhal, pakora, kheer, masala chai, samosa, jalebi, ladoo, and pau bhaji, alongside many other delicious offerings.
The free-for-all concept reflected the Sikh practice of equality and community sharing, where everyone is welcomed regardless of race, religion, or background.

A Reflection of Unity
Beyond the performances and festivities, the Perak State-Level Vaisakhi Day 2026 celebration carried a deeper message of unity and togetherness.
The event demonstrated how cultural celebrations can bring people closer while encouraging understanding and appreciation among Malaysia’s communities. It was a meaningful gathering that honoured faith, preserved cultural heritage, strengthened community bonds, and celebrated the beauty of diversity.
