Perak Caring Association Marks 15 Years of Service with LAB Appreciation Day
There was a sense of pride and purpose as the Perak Caring Association (PCA) celebrated its 15th anniversary alongside the LAB Appreciation Day. The occasion was not merely ceremonial. It was a reflection of a journey shaped by resilience, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to community upliftment.

From Humble Beginnings to Meaningful Impact
Fifteen years ago, PCA began as a modest initiative driven by a simple idea: to serve without discrimination. What followed was a journey filled with challenges, transitions, and growth.

Today, the organisation stands as a respected non-governmental body championing youth empowerment, women’s development, and community welfare across Perak.

In her address, President Pathma Devi captured the spirit of that journey candidly, “The journey is not so easy… it is filled with challenges, falling and rising again, but also hope, strength and change.”
It is this persistence that has enabled PCA to evolve from a small group of volunteers into a structured organisation delivering impactful programmes across the state.

A Celebration Grounded in Gratitude
The event brought together an esteemed group of guests, including Member of Parliament for Ipoh Timor, YB Howard Lee Chuan How, alongside representatives from government agencies, long-time supporters, and community partners.

For PCA, the anniversary was as much about recognising its network as it was about celebrating itself.
Organising Chairperson Halida Ali warmly welcomed attendees, reflecting on how far the association has come. “What started with just a handful of volunteers has grown into a multi-racial organisation. Today, we are proud to have a place of our own and a stronger foundation,” she said.

LAB Programme: More Than Just Tuition
A central highlight of the event was the LAB Programme, an initiative whose name stands for Learning, Achieving, Believing.
Designed as a year-long intervention, LAB provides free tuition to Form 5 students from B40 families. It equips them for their SPM examinations while nurturing confidence and personal growth.

Supported by Yayasan Hasanah, the programme reflects PCA’s emphasis on sustainable, long-term impact.
As LAB Coordinator Gopi Naidu explained, “The objective is clear – to provide free tuition to students from underprivileged families and ensure they receive the guidance they need to succeed.”

Education with Heart and Purpose
What sets LAB apart is its holistic approach. Beyond academic instruction in core subjects such as Bahasa Melayu, English, Mathematics, Science and History, the programme offers a comprehensive support system.

Students were provided with learning materials, meals, transport assistance, and tablets to enhance their studies. Regular engagement sessions with parents, as well as exposure to career pathways and higher education, ensured that learning extended beyond textbooks.
The programme ran for 52 weeks, with intensified sessions leading up to examinations. This reflects the dedication of both educators and students.

Results That Speak Volumes
The outcomes were nothing short of encouraging.
Out of 42 participating students, 33 achieved at least one A in their SPM results, with several attaining outstanding grades, including straight As.
More than statistics, these results represent renewed belief.
As Gopi Naidu aptly put it, “With the right support, guidance and opportunity, every student is capable of achieving excellence.”
The appreciation ceremony that followed was deeply moving, as students were recognised in the presence of proud parents. For many, it was a moment of fulfilment after months of hard work and sacrifice.

Beyond the Classroom: PCA’s Wider Mission
While LAB is a flagship initiative, PCA’s work extends far beyond education.
Its ongoing efforts include:
.
Collectively, these initiatives form a broader ecosystem of care. They respond to both immediate needs and long-term development.

Recognition from Leadership
In his keynote speech, YB Howard Lee offered a thoughtful perspective on PCA’s role in society: “What you do is not unique… but it is extremely special because you touch lives and you change lives.”
He further highlighted how PCA’s work aligns with wider national and global priorities, particularly in areas such as youth development, gender empowerment, and sustainable communities.
His remarks served as both affirmation and encouragement. Grassroots efforts like PCA’s are integral to nation-building.

Marking a Milestone
The evening’s cake-cutting ceremony symbolised more than a 15-year milestone. It honoured the legacy of those who started the journey alongside PCA founder, the late Mr. Raja Ali Pitchai, the dedication of those who sustained it, and the promise of those who will carry it forward.
As echoed throughout the event, PCA is not defined by programmes alone, but by the lives it has touched along the way. With continued support from partners such as Yayasan Hasanah and the unwavering commitment of its volunteers, the association is poised to deepen its impact.
As President Pathma Devi reminded the audience, “You are the reason we are doing this… keep learning and never give up.”
