JP Curry House: Authentic Indian Cuisine Arrives in Tanjung Rambutan

For years, people in Tanjung Rambutan had to travel to Ipoh, Bercham or Tambun for a proper sit-down Indian meal. That changed in July 2025, when JP Curry House opened its doors. In just two months, this new restaurant has already built a strong reputation, with many Indian families recommending it for its authentic South Indian flavours, warm service and inviting ambience.

A Dream Turned Into Reality

JP Curry House is the brainchild of Karthighesan, a 29-year-old entrepreneur who saw a gap in the town’s food scene. On one of his visits to visit family and friends, he realised that despite Tanjung Rambutan’s large Indian community, there wasn’t a single proper Indian restaurant where people could enjoy traditional dishes or even hold casual business chats over a good meal.

Determined to change that, he embarked on a bold journey by renovating two rundown shop lots over six months to create a modern, well-lit space where families and friends could gather.

Today, JP Curry House stands proudly opposite the town’s landmark, the Arulmigu Samayapura Maha Mariamman Temple, adding a cultural and culinary gem right in the heart of Tanjung Rambutan.

What makes it even more remarkable is Karthighesan’s filial devotion, as he chose to name the restaurant after his parents, Jakanathan and Parameswary.

A Celebration of South Indian Heritage

JP Curry House takes pride in its authenticity. About 80% of the menu is vegetarian, while the remaining 20% features chicken, mutton and seafood dishes. There’s no beef, no pork, no lard and no alcohol, with every ingredient carefully sourced from halal suppliers.

The kitchen follows traditional South Indian recipes, ensuring every dish bursts with flavour. Expect curries that are rich and aromatic, layered with spices that give them just the right kick, and meats that are juicy and tender. The biryani, prepared with fragrant basmati rice, is a must-try, with the chicken version being especially popular. The other option is mutton biryani.

Prices are surprisingly affordable too, starting at just RM1.50 per portion (plate serving), making it accessible to all. Every day, at least 10 varieties of dishes are served at the counter, with even more on weekends and peak days.

Recommended Dishes

Here are some recommendations straight from the owner:

  • Breakfast: Try the Tosai, served with two types of chutney and sambar—for only RM2. The lighter Rava Tosai is also a favourite among senior citizens.
  • Lunch: Don’t miss the Mutton Perattal, a dish full of depth and spice. Seafood lovers can indulge in the Crab Masala, cooked to perfection.
  • Dinner: The Chicken Elai Porata, with its fragrant banana leaf wrap, and the unique Nasi Lemak Goreng are excellent choices to end the day on a high note.
  • .
When asked about signature dishes, Karthighesan smiles and says, “Everything here is special.” True enough, the menu is designed so every dish receives equal attention and care.

    Service With a Personal Touch

One of the things that sets JP Curry House apart is its commitment to service. Although the team is new, the staff already work with impressive efficiency. Customers are not only served promptly but are also asked for feedback, a sign of how much the restaurant values continuous improvement.

According to Karthighesan, their focus isn’t just on taste but on creating an experience where people feel welcome and satisfied. It’s this philosophy that has made JP Curry House so highly recommended in such a short time.
