Launch of 5th IPOH International Waiters Race 2017
The fifth Ipoh International Waiters Race 2017 was launched last week with much pomp and fanfare at Kinta River Walk.
The much-awaited walking competition among those in the service industry will be held on Sunday, 14th May, 2017, from 7.30am.
Organised by the Malaysian Association of Hotels (Perak Chapter) in collaboration with Perak Tourism Association and supported by Tourism Perak Management Berhad, the 1.2km race is in two categories: Classic Tray and Sportive Tray.
Classic Tray is open to individual professionals working in hotels while Sportive Tray is for waiters in restaurants, pubs and bistros, as well as students from hospitality colleges.
Cash prizes will be awarded to the top five winners per category and gender groups. The first prize winner takes home RM2,000 for Classic Tray and RM1,500 for Sportive Tray.
Ipoh International Waiters Race was first organised in 2013 and it attracted 200 participants. The race has grown slowly but surely as the number increased to 420 in 2016.
This year, the organisers are targeting at least 400 participants, not only within Malaysia but also ASEAN countries, such as Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Cambodia and Brunei Darussalam. Contact has also been made with their counterparts in Hong Kong, Australia, and Japan.
Ipoh International Waiters Race (IIWR) is the one and only event of its kind organised in Malaysia. It is listed in Tourism Perak as well as Tourism Malaysia Calendar of Events.
With such a forthcoming unique attraction, IIWR certainly boosts Tourism Perak’s target of 8 million tourist arrivals this year, in conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2017.
