Launch of 3rd IPOH International Waiters Race
Ipoh International Waiters Race is back again. Has it been a year already?? Launched a few days ago at Lost World of Tambun, this year, the race will be conducted at the theme park as well.
This third race to be held on Sunday, May 25, is organised by Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) Perak Chapter, in conjunction with Ipoh City Day (May 27), and in line with the Tourism Ministry’s Year of Festivals 2015 campaign to promote Ipoh as a tourist destination.
The inaugural race was held at DR Park, followed by Ipoh Heritage Trail the next year. Truly, this race, which was first organised in France in the early 20th century to acknowledge the services of those in the hospitality industry, is also a great event to promote tourism in the scenic city of Ipoh.
Expected to attract some 300 participants, also anticipated are entrants from Singapore, Medan (Indonesia) and Fukuoka (Japan). The race would be divided into three categories: Classic Tray (A), Sportive Tray (B) and Fun Tray (C).
Classic Tray is open to professionals working in hotels. Therefore, they are to be strictly attired in black and white, with WR ribbon. Entry fee is RM50 per person.
Meanwhile, Sportive Tray is for quick service waiters and waitresses as well as students in hospitality institutions. Although those in this category also have to be attired in traditional or professional uniforms, they are allowed to wear sports shoes. Entry fee is also RM50 per participant.
As for Fun Tray, as the name suggests, it is open to the public. Basically, anything goes in this category. Entry fee is RM30 per competitor only.
Top three winners in each category will walk away with cash prizes in addition to medals and certificates of participation.
Category A (Men & Ladies)
1st prize: RM2,000
2nd prize: RM1,000
3rd prize: RM700
Category B (Men & Ladies)
1st prize: RM1,000
2nd prize: RM800
3rd prize: RM500
Category C (Men & Ladies)
1st prize: RM500
2nd prize: RM300
3rd prize: RM200
To add excitement to the race, guest-of-honour YB Dato’ Nolee Ashilin Mohd. Radzi (Perak State Exco for Health, Tourism and Culture) has pledged to sponsor the winner in the Classic Tray to participate in an international waiters race if the organising committee is able to rope in participants from four countries. The race to be entered by the winner in Classic Tray category will be decided in due time by MAH Perak.
Similar to previous years, a host of activities and fun-filled entertainment has been lined up, such as live band performance and ice carving demonstration, amidst a pristine environment.
