Ipoh Chin Woo 2015 CNY Celebration
It’s the tradition of Ipoh Chin Woo to hold their Chinese New Year celebration on the evening of the third day of the Lunar New Year.
With members scattered all over Malaysia and around the world, it’s a wise decision to fix a date that everyone will remember and easily plan their trip home to Ipoh. As you can see, it is not only a celebration for the Lunar New Year but also an annual gathering of members and friends.
This year’s celebration was especially meaningful for the association as on December 3, 2014, the Secretary of State in China has declared Chin Woo as a World Cultural Heritage.
Ipoh Chin Woo President Dato’ Ooi Foh Sing reminded guests that young members of the association are brought up well-disciplined to be useful members of society.
The evening also saw plaques of appreciation presented to newly-conferred Datukship, Dato’ Ooi Boon Hoi and to Mr. Leong Kam Choy AMP, who sponsored the new Lotus Dragon to Ipoh Chin Woo.
The Lotus Dragon, after a symbolic “eye-dotting ceremony”, with the lights switched off, a group of women from Ipoh Chin Woo, some coming out of retirement, presented a special dance with the dragon. Yes, you read right. All the performers were female, except for the one who controlled the head of the dragon.
As with past years, the celebration among members, friends and supporters ended with a joyous round of karaoke on stage.
