Hotel Excelsior Ipoh Ushers In The Year of the Monkey
It was a day of celebration and togetherness at Hotel Excelsior Ipoh when a lion dance troupe came by yesterday to put up breathtaking performances by two pairs of lions and a dragon.
According to legend, the lion, amid the banging of drums and clashing of cymbals, chased away the man-eating monster, Nian.
This Chinese mythology is still practised today and it is also Hotel Excelsior’s tradition to celebrate the Lunar New Year in this manner, with the owners, managers, staff, guests and public coming together to welcome the lunar new year.
An 88-foot long red firecrackers was also set off. The din created successfully drove away Nian and whatever evil spirits, if the drums and cymbals had not!
The hotel simultaneously hosted a lunch for special guests from Pertubuhan Pengurusan Pusat Jagaan 1 Malaysia Perak (PPPJ1M) as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme.
The eighteen kids and their four guardians from this children’s home were treated to a scrumptious meal at the hotel’s Dulang Coffee House. Each of them also received an ang pow from the hotel owner, Mrs. Kong, to bless them with good tidings for the coming year.
