Ipoh Car-Free Day: World Car-Free Day
Celebrating the Islamic new year of Maal Hijrah 1439 (22/9), World Car-Free Day (22/9), World Tourism Day (27/9) and World River Day (29/9), Ipoh’s monthly Car-Free Day attracted some 7,000 participants this morning.
Hosted by the Ipoh City Council on the fourth Sunday of the month from 7am to 10am, today’s event was the 22nd edition since its inception, and the 8th edition for this year. The event took a break during the month of Ramadan.
As usual, many side activities were organised, most of them related to the four celebrations, as well as those that promote green living and healthy lifestyle among community members.
One of the highlights this morning was the 3R fun ride (River Recce Ride). Flagged off by Ipoh City Mayor Dato’ Zamri Man, the hundreds of participating cyclists had the opportunity to bike along the bank of Sungai Pinji (Pinji River), for a total distance of 12.8km.
The main objective of Ipoh Car-Free Day campaign is to achieve a lower carbon footprint in the city.
The next edition of Ipoh Car-Free Day tentatively falls on Sunday, 22nd Oct, 2017. Stay tuned for more updates!

I love this type of event. I like the activities like giant bubbles and coloring contest.
we have so many bicycles in KL lately and I just wish that we can have more car free days as well…. it would help people get healthier with more walks and cycling
We should do more car free days all over Malaysia and simultaneously too!
What a great initiative! We all need better air, better weather and better world.
Ya good, reduce carbon emission and footprint.
its also healthy to use bycycle as transport medium, or simply walk around the town.
Didn’t know they initiate car free day. Envy to Max. Yes agree that KL should have more of car free days. Sick of traffic.
