Ipoh Car-Free Day in Conjunction with World Car-Free Day

Seeing that the haze condition improved tremendously, the Ipoh Car-Free Day, its 44th edition, proceeded as usual, albeit without vigorous activities. The theme of the morning event coincided with World Car-Free Day, which is held annually on 22nd of September.

This monthly programme does not only aim to achieve the objective of Ipoh as a low carbon city, but also improves the happiness index among citizens and promotes awareness of the environment, health, safety, history, as well as its heritage.

Additionally, it is a platform for the Ipoh City Council to achieve Sustainable Development Goals. Among them to be met by the City Council include:

i. Cities 2030, Cities for All: Implementing the New Urban Agenda (The Ninth Session of the World Urban Forum: 7th – 13th February 2018);
ii. Leave No One Behind (National Planning Congress in conjunction with World Town Planning Day: 29th November 2018);
iii. Our Own Town (Local Authorities Enhancement Convention: 10th – 11th December 2018).

The car-free programme attracted thousands of visitors from Ipoh and its neighbouring areas to participate in activities offered by government and non-governmental organisations.
