Official Launch of GreenAcres Retirement Village @ Meru, Ipoh
Bringing to mind images of well-manicured lawn, lush greenery and rolling emerald hills, GreenAcres Retirement Village in Meru, Ipoh, is set to change retirement lifestyle of senior citizens the way we know it, or perceive how it should be.
As a pioneering project not only in Ipoh but Malaysia, GreenAcres Retirement Village relinquishes the stigma of ‘old folks home’.
The latest project by Ipoh property developer Total Investment Sdn. Bhd., or better known as TI Homes, the idea for a modern, inclusive retirement village came to co-founder of the company-cum-founder of GreenAcres, Mdm. Siew Yin Leng in 1992, one year before the company was established.
Mdm. Siew and her team only started working on the project in 2010, and groundbreaking was in 2014.
On Saturday, 7th Oct, the first phase of GreenAcres was finally launched, and the RM10 million clubhouse that spans 30,000 sq. ft. was unveiled.
The guest-of-honour was Y.B. Datuk Seri Mah Siew Keong (Minister of Plantation, Industries and Commodities), a Perakian. The entire project on 13 acres of land is expected to complete by 2021.
Named after an American sitcom starring Eddie Albert and Eva Gabor, this low-density GreenAcres Retirement Village with integrated aged care facility is open to residents above the age of 55 years old.
Conceptualised with the assistance of Australian experts in similar developments, these age-friendly villa homes come in six layouts ranging from 734 sq. ft. to 1105 sq. ft. in size.
These compact homes within a gated and guarded community are designed with more than ten age-friendly features such as wider doors; lower and larger switches; wider and longer handles on furnishings; bathroom grab rails; taps with lever handles; seats in the shower; revamped entryways at the main entrance; step-less bathrooms; lever handles on all doors as well as emergency call buttons placed in the living room, bathrooms and bedrooms. Assistance is just a button away from the Response Team.
These homes in a new redefined lifestyle environment are available on a lease deposit structure starting from RM300,000. This deposit is fully refundable to the resident once he or she leaves the village.
Mdm. Siew believes that life begins at 60 and no one should retire into nothingness. Therefore, the clubhouse, which is equipped with the latest amenities, is central to the community, whereby the management team will organise regular age-friendly wellness and social activities that support a healthy and active lifestyle.
Moreover, a village shuttle is available to ferry residents to popular attractions in Ipoh and beyond. While housekeeping is available as an optional paid service, the maintenance of public areas such as the community gardens is by the community management team.
With life expectancy longer these days thanks to advancement in medical technology and employment mobility for the younger generation, more and more parents have to spend their old age alone.
GreenAcres Retirement Village becomes more relevant as it fulfils a need of the senior community, which currently stands at 9% of the population but projected to increase to 15% in 2030.

Hi Ms. Sham,
The current lease deposit for GreenAcres is RM300,000 for a lifetime stay and there is no minimum lease period. Yes, the lease deposit is paid in advance but is refundable after the resident leaves.
Resident is also required to pay general service charges at RM0.48 per square foot per month, and this includes the utilisation of the 30,000 sq ft Clubhouse, the maintenance of the public areas, provisions for security, village shuttle bus, management of the 24/7 emergency call system, and activities for the residents of GreenAcres.
As far as I know, there is no monthly rental.
Hi, a small group of us ladies ,retirees, from Singapore would like to visit Green Acres some time in late August or early September. Can you arrange a meeting for us and show us around?
We also would like to know details of how to get a unit, etc.
Regards
Sarah Dharan
