22 Grill Ipoh: Rediscovering a Favourite Spot with Delicious Lunch Deals
Many people assume mixed rice is our favourite meal, but the truth is that we usually choose it simply because it is convenient. When we have more time, especially on a leisurely Sunday, we much prefer sitting down to a proper meal where we can chat, catch up and enjoy each other’s company.
That kind of family time is becoming increasingly precious. With everyone juggling different schedules, it is not often that all four of us are free at the same time. So when we do get the opportunity, a relaxed meal together is something to look forward to. That was how we ended up at 22 Grill in Greentown.

It was not our first visit. We actually dined here when the restaurant first opened about three years ago, and we remember having a memorable meal. Since then, whenever we passed by 22 Grill, we would often glance over and think that we really should return when we had more time to spare. Then we noticed that they are currently running several lunch promotions. That was all the encouragement we needed.

Rediscovering 22 Grill
22 Grill is a contemporary Chinese restaurant with a strong emphasis on traditional grilling techniques and quality ingredients. While its name naturally draws attention to its BBQ offerings, the menu extends well beyond grilled meats, with a selection of Chinese dishes featuring pork, chicken, lamb, seafood and beef.
The restaurant is particularly known for its premium Japanese and Australian Wagyu, while seafood choices include Canadian scallops, saba fish, local prawns and squid.
For our Sunday visit, however, we decided to explore their lunch promotions. With four of us at the table, the Set Lunch for 4 Pax at RM88.80+ was an obvious choice.

Set Lunch for 4 Pax at RM88.80+
The four-person set is designed for sharing and works quite simply. There are four groups of dishes, and we get to choose one dish from each group.

The set also includes two side dishes and four portions of white rice, making it a convenient option for a family or group dining together.

After considering the choices, we selected:
This gave us a good variety across the table, with fish, prawns, chicken and tofu all making an appearance. Do take note that these are popular Mainland Chinese dishes, and some can be fairly spicy. If you have a preference when it comes to chilli and heat, it is worth letting the restaurant captain know your preferred level of spiciness when ordering.
Adding More to Our Lunch
Although the four-person set already gave us plenty to eat, we could not resist adding a couple more dishes. From the Lunch Special menu, we ordered the Pork Chop Noodles.

We also picked the Pork & Shrimp Dumplings in Chicken Broth from the à la carte menu. The dumplings were a nice addition to the table, particularly with their comforting chicken broth.

Meanwhile, the noodles with a generous slab of pork chop and topped with a sunny side up gave us yet another texture and flavour to enjoy alongside the shared dishes. With all that food on the table, lunch certainly became a leisurely affair.
Lunch Specials from RM11.80+
If you are dining on your own or simply want something lighter, 22 Grill also has a selection of affordable Lunch Specials.

The RM11.80+ options include Shredded Chicken Noodles with Sesame Sauce and Rou Jia Mo.
For RM13.80+, the selection expands to include Cajun Chicken Fried Rice, Dan Dan Noodles, Potherb Mustard Noodles, Scallion Oil Noodles with Smoked Duck, Pork Chop Noodles, Stewed Pork Rice and Pork Belly Fried Rice.
For drinks, Jasmine Tea can be added for RM2.50+, while Fresh Brew Coffee is available at RM4.50+.
BBQ Lunch Set from RM23.80+
Although we did not have BBQ during this particular visit, the BBQ Lunch Set promotion is certainly worth mentioning for those who want to try 22 Grill’s signature grilling concept during lunch.

The fixed-price promotion offers three different BBQ meat platter combinations:
RM23.80+ – Pork Belly Enoki Roll, Cajun Chicken, Smoked Duck Breast and Marinated Pork Belly
RM26.80+ – Cajun Chicken, Marinated Pork Belly, Sea Prawn and Pork Belly Enoki Roll
RM29.80+ – Angus Sirloin, Cajun Chicken, Salmon and Pork Belly Enoki Roll
The progression gives diners a choice depending on how much meat or seafood they fancy, with the RM29.80+ option offering the most premium combination through its inclusion of Angus Sirloin and salmon. Every set comes with a side dish and white rice.
The BBQ lunch promotion also makes 22 Grill an option for those who want a proper grilled-meat meal without necessarily committing to a larger dinner spread.
A5 Miyazaki Wagyu at RM38.80+
For beef lovers, another promotion that caught our attention is the Chef’s Selection Premium Set featuring Japan’s A5 Miyazaki Wagyu, priced at RM38.80+.
Miyazaki Wagyu is prized for its exceptional marbling and rich flavour, and this set puts the premium beef at the centre of the meal.
The A5 Miyazaki Wagyu Premium Set comes with a side dish, deep-fried garlic slices, dipping sauce and white rice.

The deep-fried garlic makes a particularly appealing accompaniment to the beef, adding fragrance and crunch, while the dipping sauce gives diners another way to enjoy the meat.
The Story Behind the Grill
While we did not order the BBQ on this occasion, 22 Grill’s grilling concept is an important part of what makes the restaurant different.
For those familiar with Korean BBQ, the idea of cooking meat at the table may seem routine. However, 22 Grill takes a Chinese approach to grilling. One of the notable differences is the way the premium beef is prepared.
Rather than heavily marinating the meat, 22 Grill leaves its premium beef unseasoned so that diners can appreciate its natural flavour. The meat can then be enjoyed as it is or paired with the accompanying dipping sauces.
This is clearly another side of 22 Grill waiting to be explored.
Babao Pear for Dessert
After all those savoury dishes, we finished with the Babao Pear, a steamed pear prepared with an assortment of ingredients including candied dates, snow lotus seed, snow swallow, peach gum, fig, lotus seeds, longan and snow fungus.

It was an interesting change from the usual desserts and a fitting way to end a Chinese meal, particularly for those who enjoy traditional ingredients and lighter, fruit-based desserts.
A Relaxed Sunday Well Spent
What made this visit particularly enjoyable was the simple fact that we had time. There was no rushing through lunch and no need to grab something quickly before moving on to the next appointment. We could sit around the table, share dishes, talk and enjoy the rare occasion when all four of us happened to be free.

It was also nice to return to a restaurant we had enjoyed three years earlier and finally fulfil that long-standing thought of, “We should come back here sometime.”
This time, we explored 22 Grill through its Chinese lunch offerings rather than the BBQ like we did the first time, and the RM88.80+ Set Lunch for 4 Pax worked beautifully for our family gathering. With four dishes, side dishes and rice, plus our additional noodles, dumplings and dessert, there was plenty for everyone to share.
