Melaka Surreal Durian Experience 2026: Day 3 – A Heritage Adventure Before We Bid Melaka Goodbye, For Now
After two days of indulging in durian, discovering unexpected attractions and experiencing different sides of Melaka, it was time for the final chapter of our 3-day Melaka Surreal Durian Experience 2026.
If the first two days had been a delicious mix of food, adventure and discovery, Day 3 brought us closer to Malaysia’s cultural heritage, folklore and traditional flavours before wrapping up on a wonderfully relaxing note.
Our final day took us from Hollywood celebrities to traditional Malaysian houses, from mythical creatures to cultural performances, followed by a satisfying Malay lunch and, eventually, a soak in the warm waters of Gadek Hot Spring.
It was an unusual combination, but then again, this had never been an ordinary trip.
Breakfast Before We Checked Out
Our morning began with breakfast at the hotel in MITC, where we had been based during our stay in Melaka.
After two busy days, breakfast gave us a chance to slow down briefly, enjoy a meal at the hotel and prepare ourselves for another day of exploration. We packed our belongings, checked out and boarded the van, ready for our final round of adventures before heading back to Putrajaya.
Looking back, we probably should have known that there was nothing particularly slow or restful about the day ahead.
Malaysia Heritage Studios: Where Heritage Meets Imagination
Our first destination was Malaysia Heritage Studios, located in Ayer Keroh. Formerly known as Mini Malaysia and ASEAN Cultural Park, the attraction has been transformed into a more immersive experience combining Malaysian heritage, architecture, folklore, entertainment, and fantasy.
The result is a rather fascinating place where traditional culture and imagination exist side by side.
And our visit began with something that had very little to do with Malaysia at first glance: Hollywood. Inside the wax museum, we came face-to-face with several familiar international celebrities, including Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie and Mr Bean.
The wax figures were surprisingly lifelike, and it was almost impossible not to stop for photographs. Of course, there is one distinct advantage to taking photographs with wax celebrities. They are extremely patient. They will happily pose for the same photograph over and over again without ever complaining. That made them particularly good companions for a group of enthusiastic photographers!
After our little brush with Hollywood celebrities, however, it was time to return to something much closer to home.
Exploring Malaysia Through Its Traditional Houses
One of the highlights of Malaysia Heritage Studios is its collection of traditional state houses, each representing the architectural character and cultural heritage of different parts of Malaysia.
Walking through the attraction felt like taking a miniature journey across the country. Rather than travelling from state to state, we could experience different architectural styles within the same sprawling attraction.
The traditional houses provided an interesting glimpse into the way local architecture reflects the environment, culture and history of each state. What made the visit even more engaging was that we were not simply walking around admiring the buildings. We were invited to participate in traditional cultural dances as well. That changed the experience completely.
Instead of remaining on the sidelines, we found ourselves attempting to follow the movements and rhythms of the dancers. Some members of our group appeared to have a natural talent for it, while others seemed to have developed their own interpretation of traditional dance!
Fortunately, there was plenty of laughter, and nobody seemed too concerned about whether every movement was perfectly synchronised. That was part of the fun.
The experience reminded us that cultural heritage becomes much more meaningful when we are given an opportunity to participate rather than simply observe.
A Brush with Malaysian Folklore at the Immortal Maze
Our journey through Malaysia Heritage Studios did not stop at architecture and traditional culture.
We soon found ourselves entering the Immortal Maze, an attraction that takes visitors into the mysterious world of Malaysian legends and mythical creatures.
The atmosphere here was noticeably different. Instead of admiring traditional houses in the daylight, we were suddenly surrounded by a world inspired by folklore and legendary creatures. Among the characters brought to life are mythical beings from Malaysian stories, including the Naga Tasik Chini and the legendary Mawas.
There was a sense of anticipation as we moved through the maze, never quite knowing what we would encounter next. It was also one of those attractions where everyone suddenly became a little more cautious about turning the next corner.
The Immortal Maze provided an entertaining change of pace and showed another side of Malaysia’s cultural heritage, one steeped in legends, stories and creatures that have captured the imagination for generations.
A Well-Deserved Ice Cream Break
By the time we emerged from the maze, we had accumulated quite a bit of walking and exploration. Naturally, we decided that a refreshment break was in order. We stopped at the café at Heritage Studios for drinks and ice cream, which turned out to be a particularly welcome treat in Melaka’s warm weather.
It was also a chance for everyone to sit down, cool off and chat about the different things we had seen. There is something rather satisfying about enjoying a cold dessert after spending the morning exploring an attraction, and the ice cream provided the perfect little interlude before the final part of our Heritage Studios visit.
Ending Our Visit with Music and Dance
Just when we thought our Heritage Studios experience was coming to an end, there was one more performance waiting for us.
We gathered at the open-air arena for a lively traditional cultural performance featuring music, dance and colourful costumes. The energy of the performers was infectious, and the traditional music created a wonderful atmosphere.
Then came the unexpected part. Our group was invited to join the dancers. What followed was a wonderfully entertaining session as we attempted to imitate the traditional movements while keeping up with the music. Some were clearly more coordinated than others, but everyone gave it a good try.
The atmosphere was relaxed and cheerful, and there was plenty of laughter as we attempted to follow the choreography. It was perhaps the most appropriate way to conclude our visit because the experience had encouraged us to do more than simply look at Malaysian heritage. We had been able to interact with it, learn about it and, quite literally, dance our way through it.

Lunch at Sultan Salai
By now, our morning of walking, exploring and dancing had worked up a healthy appetite. We continued to Sultan Salai in Kampung Taboh Naning, Alor Gajah, for lunch.
After spending the morning discovering Malaysia’s architectural and cultural heritage, it seemed fitting that lunch should also showcase traditional Malay flavours.
Sultan Salai specialises in salai, a traditional smoking technique that gives meat and other ingredients a distinctive smoky aroma and flavour. The restaurant is known for its extensive selection of smoked dishes and kampung-style cooking, including various preparations of chicken, beef, duck and fish.
The meal was hearty and satisfying, with the rich flavours of traditional Malay cooking providing exactly the kind of nourishment we needed after an active morning.
The meal was another reminder that food is such an important part of discovering a destination. Sometimes, the best way to understand a place is simply to sit down and taste what the locals have been enjoying for generations.

Gadek Hot Spring: The Perfect Ending to Three Busy Days
With lunch taken care of, we made our way to our final destination in Melaka, Gadek Hotspring Wellness & Spa Resort.
After everything we had done during the previous two days, followed by another active morning, the thought of concluding the trip at a hot spring sounded almost too good to be true. However, there was still one more part of the resort to discover before we got into the water.
A Look at the Resort Accommodation
We were given a guided tour of the resort’s accommodation facilities, including its rooms and chalets.
Gadek Hotspring Wellness & Spa Resort offers several types of accommodation, ranging from standard rooms to larger family-oriented chalets. Some of the chalet options come with private hot spring pools, making them particularly appealing for families or groups who prefer a more private experience.
The resort’s accommodation options also make it possible to turn a simple hot spring visit into a longer wellness getaway.
After viewing the rooms and facilities, it was easy to imagine spending a night or two here, especially for anyone looking for a quieter alternative to staying in the city. The surroundings are considerably more relaxed, and the hot spring facilities provide an additional reason to linger rather than simply drop by for a quick visit.
Finally, Into the Hot Spring
Of course, the accommodation tour was only part of the reason we were there. The real attraction was waiting – the natural hot spring.
After three days of travelling around Melaka, climbing in and out of vehicles, walking through attractions, eating, dancing and generally keeping ourselves occupied from morning until evening, the warm water was exactly what our tired bodies needed.
There was no need for an itinerary at this point. We could simply soak in and relax.
The warm water provided a welcome opportunity to ease tired muscles and enjoy a slower pace after several days of constant activity. Around us, the atmosphere was considerably more peaceful than the lively attractions we had visited earlier in the trip.
For once, nobody was checking what attraction we were heading to next. We simply enjoyed the moment. It was a surprisingly fitting conclusion to our Melaka adventure.

Goodbye, Melaka, For Now
Eventually, however, every good trip has to come to an end. We dried off, gathered our belongings and boarded our ride for the journey back to Tourism Malaysia’s headquarters in Putrajaya. As the vehicle pulled away from Melaka, there was a definite sense that something special had come to an end.
Over three days, we had experienced far more than just a durian-themed itinerary. There had been orchard visits, hands-on activities, ATV adventures, unusual meals, cultural attractions, traditional performances, mythical creatures, desserts, local cuisine and even a relaxing soak in a natural hot spring.
Most importantly, there was plenty of laughter and camaraderie among the group, along with new friendships forged.
What made this trip particularly memorable was the variety of experiences packed into those three days. We were constantly moving from one completely different experience to another, which meant there was rarely a dull moment. From the first taste of durian to our final soak in Gadek’s warm waters, Melaka continued to surprise us. That is exactly what made the Melaka Surreal Durian Experience 2026 so aptly named.
Melaka Surreal Durian Experience 2026 may have come to an end, but the memories will undoubtedly stay with us for a very long time.
