These attractions took centre stage in Kuala Lumpur on 29 August 2026, when the Discover Guizhou: China–Malaysia Cultural Tourism and Audiovisual Exchange Journey brought the best of Guizhou to Pavilion Kuala Lumpur through an engaging celebration of tourism, culture, music, fashion and audiovisual storytelling.
A Taste of Guizhou Arrives in Kuala Lumpur
Held at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, the event was jointly organised by the International Communication Centre of Guizhou Radio and Television Station, Anshun Tourism Group Co., Ltd., Mango Media Sdn Bhd and Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, with support from the Malaysia Guizhou Chamber of Commerce.
The programme attracted more than 100 guests from Malaysian government agencies, tourism authorities, mainstream media, chambers and business associations, tour operators, universities, aviation companies and Chinese enterprises operating in Malaysia.
More than 20 KOLs and content creators also took part, adding another dimension to the cultural and tourism exchange. Rather than simply presenting Guizhou through brochures and destination information, the event brought the province to life through tourism presentations, ethnic music and dance, fashion showcases and immersive experiences.
For Malaysian audiences, it was an opportunity to experience a glimpse of Guizhou’s landscapes, traditions and lifestyle without having to leave Kuala Lumpur.
Building Stronger Cultural Connections Between China and Malaysia
Huang Bei, Deputy Director of both the Satellite TV Centre and International Communication Centre of Guizhou Radio and Television Station, highlighted Guizhou’s exceptional natural scenery, diverse ethnic cultures and deep cultural heritage.
She expressed hope that the Discover Guizhou series would introduce the province to more Malaysians and encourage more travellers from Malaysia to visit Guizhou in person.
The event also highlighted the importance of cultural exchange between the two countries. Representing Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications, Wong Siew Ki, Member of the Selangor State Legislative Assembly for Seri Kembangan, said the programme presented Guizhou’s natural beauty and cultural stories through film and video, music, dance and fashion in ways that resonated with Malaysian audiences.
She also noted that the exchange created more opportunities for media organisations, content creators and cultural professionals from China and Malaysia to connect and deepen collaboration.
When Music and Dance Become a Common Language
One of the highlights of the event was a cross-cultural performance featuring artists from both China and Malaysia. Performers from the Guizhou Song and Dance Theatre presented the traditional Guizhou ethnic dance Young Men, Four-Stringed Lutes and Rhododendron Blossoms.
They later joined Malaysian performers for Singing in Antiphony Until Sunset, a collaborative song-and-dance presentation that demonstrated how music and movement can bring people from different cultures together.
The performances provided more than entertainment. They created a shared cultural experience, allowing traditional and contemporary expressions from both countries to meet on the same stage.
Miao Fashion Takes the Spotlight
Culture also took to the runway as seven Malaysian models appeared in elaborate traditional Miao costumes from Guizhou. The participation of local models made the fashion showcase especially interactive, while providing Malaysian audiences with a closer and more accessible look at Miao clothing traditions.
Beyond their striking colours and intricate designs, the costumes offered an insight into the cultural heritage and meanings associated with Miao traditions. For many visitors, seeing the traditional attire modelled by Malaysians provided a particularly relatable introduction to one of Guizhou’s rich ethnic cultures.

Among the destinations highlighted during the event was Anshun, a city where natural beauty, culture and cuisine come together. Hu Jiang, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Anshun Tourism Group, introduced guests to the many experiences awaiting visitors in Anshun.
One of its appealing features is its relatively cool summer climate, with an average temperature of around 21°C. For Malaysians accustomed to warm weather throughout the year, this makes Guizhou particularly attractive as a potential summer escape.
Anshun is also home to some of the region’s most impressive natural attractions, including Huangguoshu Waterfall and the karst caves of Loong Palace.
Nature Meets 600 Years of Tunpu Culture

Special travel offers were also introduced for guests attending the event. The initiative aims to encourage greater tourism exchange between Anshun and Malaysia while promoting resource sharing and increased visitor flows between the two destinations.
Malaysian Travellers Share Their Guizhou Impressions
The destination presentation clearly made an impression on Malaysian guests. Dato’ Joyce Yap Soh Ching, one of the Malaysian guests at the event, described Guizhou as an eye-opening destination despite having already travelled to major Chinese cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen.
She was particularly impressed by Guizhou’s Miao villages, waterfalls and spectacular bridges. Its food also left a memorable impression. She noted that the province’s characteristic sour and spicy flavours could appeal even to family members who normally avoid spicy food, including older people and a four-year-old child.
Her conclusion was simple: Guizhou is a place worth visiting at least once in a lifetime. Travel and lifestyle influencer Vivienne was especially attracted to Huangguoshu Waterfall and its spectacular natural scenery. She also highlighted the possibility of bringing her parents to Guizhou to enjoy its mountains and outdoor experiences.
For Malaysians seeking relief from the heat, she pointed out that Guizhou could be an especially appealing choice, given that Malaysia experiences warm weather throughout the year.
Guizhou Cultural Street Brings the Destination to Life
The Discover Guizhou event was not the first opportunity for Malaysians to experience the province. Several days before the main event, Guizhou Cultural Street opened at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
Visitors were able to discover Guizhou through its cuisine, tourism displays and interactive experiences, bringing elements of the province directly into one of Kuala Lumpur’s popular retail and public spaces. The cultural street attracted local residents and visitors, giving them the opportunity to experience aspects of Guizhou culture while learning more about its tourism attractions. It also helped create anticipation for the main Discover Guizhou programme.
Beyond Tourism: Exploring Future China–Malaysia Collaboration
The Malaysian visit was also about building connections beyond tourism. During the visit, the Guizhou delegation held discussions with Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications, Astro’s Chinese Business unit, Store N Go Sdn Bhd, Spark Motion Media (Holding) Sdn. Bhd. and other government, media and business organisations.
Discussions covered media communication, audiovisual content and industry cooperation, with both sides exploring further opportunities for collaboration. These exchanges underline the growing role of media, content creators and audiovisual storytelling in connecting destinations with international audiences.
