Goddess Ho Seen Koo Festival, Tambun
It’s the festival of the Goddess Ho Seen Koo, one of the 8 Legendary Immortals of Taoist deities. The main temple in Ipoh, along Jalan Tambun main road, conducted a celebration on a grand scale in her honour.
Goddess Ho Seen Koo has two festivals every year. One is on the seventh day of the third moon, while the other is on the eight day of the eight moon of the Chinese Lunar calendar. Both occasions are observed by this temple.
This Goddess Ho Seen Koo temple is believed to have been established in 1908, making it 115 years old this year. It’s very well maintained, with new features added over time. The latest is a set of 8 Legendary Immortals figurines situated at the back of the temple.
Today, 26th April 2023, is the auspicious seventh day of the third moon of the Chinese Lunar calendar. Devotees of Taoist faith came together from near and far in celebration, after the modest event held last year following the lifting of COVID-19 lockdown.
A prayer session was conducted this morning from 11am onwards, which included chanting of prayers, the burning of dragon joss-sticks and prayer paper paraphernalia, plus wrapping up with the sending off deceased souls to the Western Paradise.
Once the celebration for the deity was over, lunch was offered to devotees as thanksgiving. View the full photo album of Goddess Ho Seen Koo Festival on our official Facebook Page by clicking HERE.
On normal days, this Goddess Ho Seen Koo temple is open to worshippers from 11am until 3pm daily. Devotees who would like to make enquiries may contact the temple committee member at 016-5586623. Communication is through Mandarin, Cantonese and Teochew. The temple also welcomes donations in cash and kind. Contact this same phone number for further details.
