Book Launch: ‘A Guide for Independent-Minded Scientists’ by Dr Francis Ng
A book that’s addressed to budding scientists, parents and teachers in Malaysia, and other developing countries, ‘A Guide for Independent-Minded Scientists’ is based on Dr Francis Ng’s personal experience as a scientist as well as a manager of scientists in a developing country and years in international development.
According to Dr Francis, the best scientists are at least 20 times more productive than the average ones, because the cream of the crop scientists think and act strategically. This book guides scientists in finding the right strategies for themselves, their organisations, and even their own countries.
In this book, Dr Francis attempts to change the mindset of the “ordinary” scientist, even bringing in the role that luck plays in groundbreaking discoveries. However, he reminded us that, “Luck benefits the prepared mind.”
‘A Guide for Independent-Minded Scientists’ was launched by the Minister of Science, Technology & Innovation Malaysia, YB Chang Lih Kang, who is also a Member of Parliament for Tanjung Malim, Perak.
Dr Francis Ng, 83, retired from the Forest Research Institute Malaysia as its Deputy Director-General. He then joined the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations as Chief of its Service for Forest Research, Training and Education. He is currently an independent consultant to several organisations, including the Bandar Utama City Corporation, the Royal Belum State Park, and Forest Research Institute Malaysia.
