Chap Goh Mei Celebration @ Kwan Yin Tong, Ipoh
This year’s Chap Goh Mei (15th night of Spring Festival) falls on Feb 14, which is also Valentine’s Day on the Gregorian calendar.
Therefore, for romancing couples, this is a day of double celebration. Many couples also choose this day to tie the knot. Well, at least anniversaries are easier to remember.
For Chap Goh Mei celebration in Ipoh, also known as the Lantern Festival or Yuan Xiao Festival, it is celebrated splendidly at Kwan Yin Tong (Goddess of Mercy cave temple) along Jalan Gopeng.
For this year, the celebration will fall on the evening of 13th and 14th Feb, 2014. So, see you around!
By the way, the actual “Chinese Valentine’s Day” is on the 7th day of the 7th Lunar month, called “Double Seventh Festival” or “Young Girls’ Festival”.
The story behind this is one of four major Chinese romance folklores. It is in celebration of the annual meeting between the cowherd and his wife, the weaver girl.
