Yogathon 2013

Yogathon 2013 was held successfully yesterday. It saw the participation of more than a hundred people; not only yoga instructors, practitioners and enthusiasts, but also total newbies who came unprepared. The breathing and stretching involved in yoga is said to reduce stress and calm us down.
The event was launched by Perak Exco, Y.B. Dato’ Dr. Mah Hang Soon, who revealed that he was once a student of yoga, for a short six months. He had to give up the exercise due to his extremely busy schedule but hoped to resume it one day. He also donated, on behalf of the state government, a sum of RM3000 to The Art of Living (Ipoh), the main organiser of the event. The co-organiser was Kiwanis Club of Meru Valley.
The challenge to complete all 108 rounds of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) took a little over an hour, and I am happy to report that almost all the participants managed to follow the rhythm set by main yoga instructor, Lim Fong Ying, who is also the coordinator of The Art Of Living Ipoh Activities Centre in Ipoh Garden East. She was assisted by three instructors, Seow Hwang, Fong and Steven, who came from other Art of Living centres.
Gold Certificates were presented to those who successfully completed all 108 rounds of Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation), while those who could not complete, received the Spirit of Yoga Certificate. I think most received the Gold certs. Yes, that was how good they were!
