Tasek Store Set To Be Art Bloc, A New Ipoh Tourism Attraction
The transformation of the Tasek Store site into a vibrant new tourism attraction, “Art Bloc,” marks an exciting chapter for Ipoh’s cultural landscape. This initiative, formalised through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed on 17th December 2024 between the Ipoh City Council and A2Z Charity Organisation, aims to create a hub that celebrates the arts and local culture.

A Vision for Cultural Enrichment
The Art Bloc is on track to become a landmark destination in Ipoh, focusing on five key areas: Art, Fashion, Film, Food, and Music. This multifaceted approach aims to foster interaction and education within the creative industry, positioning Art Bloc as an international cultural platform.

Ipoh City Mayor Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin, highlighted the project’s goal of promoting local culture while integrating global artistic trends. He stated that this initiative aligns with the broader vision of making Ipoh a city renowned for its artistic contributions, as outlined in the “Ipoh Bestari Sejahtera” plan.
Showcasing Local Talent
One of the most exciting aspects of Art Bloc is its commitment to showcasing the works of 100 local artists. This programme not only provides a platform for these artists to gain recognition, but also enriches the cultural tapestry of Ipoh by blending local traditions with contemporary art forms. The Mayor expressed optimism that Art Bloc would vitalise the city’s cultural scene, allowing local artists to achieve international acclaim.
Sustainable Development and Innovative Design
The redevelopment process will involve an open tender for architects, encouraging both local and international participation. This approach is intended to ensure innovative designs that adhere to sustainable development principles. The project will be closely monitored with regular updates provided to the public as it progresses towards its anticipated opening in August 2025.
Community Engagement and Support
The launch ceremony held on 17 December 2024 at Dewan Azlan Shah at the Ipoh Council Building was attended by various dignitaries, including members from the Branding Association of Malaysia and representatives from A2Z Charity Organisation. Their presence underscores the collaborative effort behind this dynamism, and reflects a shared commitment to enhance Ipoh’s cultural attractions.

A Brighter Future for Ipoh’s Arts Scene
As the Tasek Store site undergoes its transformation into Art Bloc, it promises to be more than just a tourist attraction; it will serve as a beacon for creativity and cultural exchange in Ipoh. By embracing both local heritage and global influences, Art Bloc is poised to become a significant contributor to Malaysia’s vibrant arts scene, inviting visitors from near and far to experience the rich tapestry of creativity that Ipoh has to present.
