Perak Bar Annual Dinner 2014 / 50th Anniversary Celebration
This year’s Perak Bar annual dinner was also to celebrate the Bar’s 50th anniversary. Members of the Perak legal eagle fraternity, including judges and invited guests, all dressed up in glitzy evening wear, walked the red carpet, which was the theme of the event.
On a sombre note, the celebration kicked off with the observation of a moment of silence to pay tribute to Dato’ Yeoh Kian Teik who passed away on Nov. 5th at the age of 89. Dato’ Yeoh was the first Chairman of the Perak Bar in 1965, and had served for a total of three terms.
Unlike previous annual dinners, this Golden Jubilee of Perak Bar was made even more memorable as past Chairpersons were brought together to join in the celebration. Current Chairman for 2014/2015 Mr. Kenny Lai took the opportunity to present each of them with a token of appreciation. It was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony.
The emcee, Miss Earth Malaysia 2012 Deviyah Daranee delivered an impromptu song, much to the delight of guests, but what brought the house down was stand-up comedian Douglas Lim, who was really in his element last night.
Douglas Lim is a man of many talents. He is also an actor, stage performer, music composer, voice over, and more!
Throughout the evening, talented lawyers were recognised, including Most Outstanding Female Lawyer which was awarded to Nurul Azira bt. Abdul Aziz while the Most Outstanding Male Lawyer accolade went to Mohamad Sharul Nizam bin Shuhaimi.
Meanwhile, the best YBGK (Yayasan Bantuan Guaman Kebangsaan) / LAC (Legal Aid Centre) Counsel went to Amani Williams Hunt, or better known as Bah Tony. He is the first and currently the only Orang Asli member of the Bar. The Female award was presented to Nurul Jannah.
The Best Dressed Awards went to Olinda Frederick Nicholas and Andrew Soong. The night also saw plenty of prizes such as household electrical appliances, personal electronic devices and legal books, given away through lucky draws. Guests also participated in a raffle, with the prize of a 16GB iPad Air won by young Erin Lai, the daughter of Mr. Kenny Lai.
