Creative Latin Dance Academy 2nd Anniversary Dinner-cum-Dance
Dancers dressed in resplendent red Chinese New Year costumes blazed the floor in a Lunar New Year dance presentation, marking the start to an evening of the Creative Latin Dance Academy’s second anniversary celebration.
The dinner-cum-dance provided an excellent opportunity for these students to display their footwork not only for Latin dances but also Kpop and other genres, under the tutelage of Creative Latin Dance Academy founder-cum-principal CL Tan, over the past year.
Creative Latin Dance Academy, known as CLDA in short, was founded by Tan Cheng Lee, or CL Tan among friends. Coincidentally, Tan’s initials could stand for ‘Creative Latin’ while her surname rhymes with ‘dance’.
In her opening speech, CL Tan said, “Tonight’s celebration is not only for our dance students to showcase their skills, talent and creativity but it also allows them to build their courage for public performance.
“It is my hope that more parents would allow their children to explore the world of dance. It is an activity that promotes a healthy lifestyle.”
Indeed, with support from their instructors, parents and siblings, as well as fellow students, the dancers, some of whom are still very young, did exceptionally well in their routines.
Guest-of-honour Dato’ Tan Lian Hoe, chief of women’s wing of the Malaysian People’s Movement Party (Gerakan), was seen enjoying herself as she was entertained by the non-stop programme.
Some of the Latin dances presented were Jive, Rumba, Cha-Cha, Samba and Paso. Also included in the line-up were Ballroom and Kpop-style dancing, to the delight of the young audience.
The celebration came to a close with a lucky draw session where sponsored prizes of gift hampers and travel packages were given away to lucky guests.
CLDA is located in Taman Pengkalan Puteri (Ipoh) and was established in August 2014. CL Tan began teaching about six years ago after learning Latin dances for more than ten years.
Well-versed in Latin dances, CL Tan teaches Latin dance, Ballroom dance, Social dance, Dance fitness, besides conducting classes for children, juniors, adults and seniors.
Furthermore, she holds private lessons for competitions and performances, as well as dance for events and functions.
Currently, CLDA has about a hundred dance students. Additionally, CL Tan is engaged to conduct classes at a dance studio in Sungai Siput.
