Usher in the Lunar New Year in Style With 3-in-1 Grand Platter by Sun Yeong Wai
Do you know that we have already welcomed the Year of the Dog since 立春 (Li Chun) on 4th Feb, although Chinese New Year is only officially celebrated on 16th Feb? Well, we can actually start feasting on CNY goodies!
This afternoon, my family was at Restaurant SYW to feast on their newly-introduced Grand Platter, a 3-in-1 combination of the restaurant chain’s signature items of charcoal-roasted duck, roasted pork and BBQ pork. Yes, ‘grand’ is the accurate word to describe this mouth-watering dish.
Although this Grand Platter, suitable for 7 to 8 pax (with whole duck) is good enough on its own, to complement the meat dish and in conjunction with Chinese New Year, diners are recommended to match it with the restaurant’s Yee Sang. This is primarily a vegetable dish with jelly fish as its main ingredient.
What a satisfying meal it was. Because we wanted to have more variety for lunch by ordering other items from the à la carte menu, we chose the standard-sized Grand Platter, for 3 – 4 pax.
So, have a look at the other dishes that we had for lunch today. These are all chef’s recommendations, especially the claypot assam fish and Nyonya acar, washed down with popular fruit juices. These fruit juices may not be available the whole year through as they depend on the availability of seasonal fruits.
Just so you know, both the Grand Platter and Jelly Fish Yee Sang are available at all three Sun Yeong Wai restaurants in Ipoh, for dine-in (lunch/dinner) and takeaway, until the 15th day of Chinese New Year (2nd March).
The restaurants are closed on the first day of CNY (16th Feb). While walk-ins are fine, I would recommend you to make your reservation so that you do not have to wait long to be served.
Here’s a low down on the prices of the Grand Platter and Jelly Fish Yee Sang.
Grand Platter (7 – 8 pax) -> RM109
Grand Platter (7 – 8 pax) + Yee Sang -> RM149.90
Grand Platter (3 – 4 pax) -> RM66
Grand Platter (3 – 4 pax) + Yee Sang -> RM109
Yee Sang only -> RM48
So, are you dining in or tapao-ing?
