Kuala Selangor Nature Park (Taman Alam)
Although Kuala Selangor Nature Park (or in Malay: Taman Alam Kuala Selangor) is a treasure trove for nature lovers, I wonder how many local people appreciate it.
Encompassing some 800 acres of land, visitors can take a walk along the trail which leads them into secondary forests, circling a man-made lake and even through a mangrove swamp. This is home to a vast variety of flora and fauna.
If you are an observant person, you can see a lot of fish, birds (150 species), crabs and many other wild animals, plants, as well as flowers.
Conservatively, it takes 1 hour 20 minutes to complete the 3.5km trail, including climbing up the observation towers. From what I read on the internet, there are supposed to be four trails but we were only told of one. Several paths seemed to have been blocked, probably due to safety concerns.
I remember visiting on a Sunday and there was no guide to lead us. It was just too bad that our timing was not the best as I believe that we could learn so much more with an experienced guide to identify things for us.
By the way, ticket prices are really affordable, at RM4 per adult and RM1 for student below 17 years old. Members of the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS) and senior citizens above 60 years of age pay just RM2. It is free of charge for children below 7 years old. These admission fares are known as Conservation Fee.
If you plan to visit Kuala Selangor Nature Park, remember to equip yourself with mosquito repellent, sufficient drinking water, a cap to protect yourself against the sun and an umbrella against the rain. Most importantly, bring along a camera to capture all the sights of nature. You are only allowed to take home photographs and memories, nothing else.
If you wish to spend the night in Kuala Selangor Nature Park, it is possible. There are four types of accommodation in the park. Their nightly rates are:
A-frame Hut – RM30
Chalet – RM60
Hostel – RM175
Dormitory – RM220
