Karnival Mersa Anak Muda (KAMU) Youth Carnival
The three-day Karnival Mersa Anak Muda (KAMU) over the weekend wrapped up yesterday in a closing ceremony by YAB Menteri Besar Perak Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, together with YB Puan Sandrea Ng, Chairman of the Perak State Housing & Local Government Committee. Ipoh City Mayor Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud was also in attendance.

In his closing speech directed to the young generation of Perakians, he reminded them that although one could make good money as a social media influencer or eSports personality, one should never neglect education. In fact, we should adopt the mentality of lifelong learning and upskill ourselves whenever we can.

Quoting Khairul Amin Kamarulzaman, winner of the inaugural TikTok Awards MY 2023, in his award acceptance speech, to be successful in any field, even in social media and eGaming, we should have knowledge and skills, which we can gain from a solid education.

Datuk Seri Saarani also assured the young that the Perak state government is working hard to create job opportunities and this is being realised via the establishment of SilverValley Technology Park (SVTP) located in Khanthan, an initiative by Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNP) and Invest Perak.

He added, “In order to compete with the more advanced ports in Selangor and Johor as an industrialised state, we are also upgrading Lumut Port. We have engaged a Belgian company to assist us in this effort, not only to improve the port itself but also to set up LUMIC, which stands for Lumut Maritime Industry City. As you can tell, this will benefit the entire Lumut town and neighbouring areas.
“All in all, with the many ongoing projects, a total of 51,000 new jobs will be created in the coming 25 years.”

In closing, Datuk Seri Saarani advised that we should never give up. When we fall, we just get up and try again.
At the end of the 3-day KAMU youth carnival, where XOX Berhad was its main sponsor, Pantai Hospital Ipoh emerged as the top employer, for offering employment to three applicants, the highest number among the participating employer exhibitors.
