I was lucky enough to catch the Perak Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, officiating Karnival ICT Perak. As mentioned in my post yesterday, there are actually two events held jointly at Stadium Indera Mulia this weekend. Therefore, it’s not surprising that Upin, Ipin and their friends made an appearance too, much to the delight of fans.
The Perak government would like to develop this industry and to encourage us to learn more about information and communications technology and look into this as a career. Isn’t the success of Upin & Ipin inspiring enough?
There are many ICT courses offered, including subsidised short courses by KPerak, but from what I see, students need to be creative in the first place as creativity cannot be taught.
Yesterday, there was also a talk on cyber security. I was quite dismayed that the focus on cyber security was on Facebook. Gosh, the internet is so much more than just Facebook. This is also a problem with the many social media conferences that I have participated in the past couple of years. No doubt Facebook is a major player and it is said that Malaysians have the most Facebook friends but I think it’s more important to teach us how to spot scam email and drill into our minds never to click on links that come in our mail, even if it looks like it’s from someone we know.
In short, Karnival ICT Perak is like an education fair. Too bad ICT Perak career fair was not included in this carnival.
