A discussion was held between PLANMalaysia (Jabatan Perancangan Bandar dan Desa) and the Ipoh City Council (Majlis Bandaraya Ipoh – MBI) on Monday, 20th July, with reference to the Tree Preservation Order (TPO) case study.
Ipoh has been identified as a research site since the City Council has already implemented the Tree Preservation Order under the Town & Country Planning Act.
This case study is led by Prof. Emeritus Ismawi Zen. In his team are various stakeholders who will check on the effectiveness of the order in preserving heritage trees in municipal areas.
During the session, Landscape Director of MBI Encik Meor Abdullah Zaidi Bin Meor Razali, articulated about the current scenario on implementation by the City Council and its eZe3@MBI system as an effective inventory of shading trees.
The team conducted a site visit to Sekolah Perempuan Methodist (MGS) and in front of Istana Kinta; both places are involved in the Tree Preservation Order case study in Ipoh.
This one-year study is funded by PLANMalaysia. It is hoped that the choice of Ipoh as the site for this case study will help realise the aspiration to make the capital of Perak a sustainable and low carbon city.
