HRPB Paediatric Care Unit Receives Medical Equipment from IIFW™ 17

If you have been following this blog, you would know about the International IPOH Fashion Week 2017 (IIFW™ 17), being a charity platform that raised funds to support Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun’s Paediatric Care Unit. Well, this piece of news may have come late. However, it is to bring a closure to the articles that I have posted regarding IIFW 2017.

co-founder of IIFW 2017, Ms. Adeline Khan, hands over medical equipment to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun’s Paediatric Care Unit

On 5th Dec, committee members of IIFW 2017 handed over specialised medical equipment to the child cancer unit, purchased upon advice of the hospital, with the RM50,000 raised through a 3-day fashion gala in Ipoh.

The equipment were:
– 1 X 4 channel patient monitor that can help to closely observe ill patients, as well as free nurses to do more nursing care.
– 2 X syringe perfusors that can assist in delivering precise, small volumes of chemotherapy drugs in a controlled fashion.
– 2 X volumetric perfusors that accurately deliver drugs and fluids over a longer period of time.

Upon receiving them during a ceremony at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Senior Consultant Pediatrician Dato’ Dr Amar-Singh HSS said, “These will enhance our services and improve care delivered to our child patients.”

The Paediatric Oncology service of the Paediatric Department at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun Ipoh caters for both out and in patients for Perak and the northern region. Much of the work is done as ambulatory care (daycare) but more seriously ill children (immunosuppressed) are warded. There is also a follow-up clinic for long-term survivors.

On average, 70 – 80 children with a malignancy will present each year in Perak. Around 25 of these will be children with leukaemia, 8 – 10 with a brain tumour and 8 – 10 with a lymphoma. The majority (80%) can be effectively treated with chemotherapy and enjoy a full life span. Although the number of new patients each year is not too large, the intensity of care is very high. There are between 2000 – 3000 visits by these children each year, with 2500 procedures being conducted.

In short, the Paediatric Department at Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun welcomes the care of the public in supporting these children and their families in their time of need.

International IPOH Fashion Week (IIFW™ 17) was the first ever fashion event held in Ipoh of international standard.

Founded by husband-and-wife team of Louis Sebastian and Adeline Khan, IIFW™ is set to be an annual key event in Perak’s Calendar of Events.

The inaugural IIFW™ ’17 was held over 3 days from 6th to 8th October 2017 and was a prelude to a grand fashion week event come 2018.
