Balance for Better: Recognising Women’s Contribution to Society
Approximately 9,000 people from Ipoh and its surrounding areas participated in Ipoh Car-Free Day, the 39th edition since it kicked off in October 2015. It was undeniably the most lively event to date.
Also in attendance were Ipoh City Council Secretary Encik Mohd Zakuan bin Haji Zakaria, Ipoh City Council Planning Director Tuan Zulqarnain Mohamad, Orang Besar Jajahan Kinta, Ipoh City Councillors, and department heads of the city council.
The central theme was International Women’s Day, in celebration and recognition of women’s contribution to society. In accordance with the global event, the motto “Balance for Better” was adopted.
Encik Mohd Zakuan said the car-free day programme was also held to achieve the aspirations of Ipoh Sports City, lower carbon footprint and improve the Independence Index among the people by fostering environmental awareness, health, safety, history and legacy.
Meanwhile, among the Sustainable Development Goals to be met are:
i. Cities 2030, Cities for All: Implementing the New Urban Agenda (The Ninth Session of the World Urban Forum: 7th – 13th February 2018);
ii. Leave No One Behind (National Planning Congress in Conjunction with World Town Planning Day: 29th November 2018);
iii. Our Own Town (Local Authorities Enhancement Convention: 10th – 11th December, 2018);
iv. Our City Our Responsibility (Kohijau).
As with previous Ipoh Car-Free Day events, joining forces to make it a success were governmental agencies, non-profit organisations, as well as commercial brands.
During the event, YDH Dato’ Orang Besar Jajahan Kinta launched “Fantastic 4” Combo Tickets.
The “Fantastic 4” are the main tourist destinations within Kinta Valley Geopark, namely Kellie’s Castle, HOGA Gaharu Tea Valley, Gua Tempurung (Tempurung Caves) and Tanjung Tualang Tin Dredge No. 5 (TT5). Promoting the aforementioned attractions is in collaboration with Ipoh-based travel agent, Adventure360.
These combo tickets are suitable for families and groups. This is a good initiative to boost Perak’s key tourist sites of nature/agro, heritage and adventure as well as to attract long stay travellers.
The “Fantastic 4” combo tickets are only RM32 each (normal price RM37) and can be purchased via Adventure360 at +010-434 6865 (Ipoh) or TT5 hotline +6014-904 3255.
Did you know that Kinta Valley Geopark status was proclaimed by HRH Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah on 25 October, 2018? There are 18 natural geocites and TT5 is one of them. It is the last remaining tin dredge in Malaysia conserved by MB Inc. Perak.
Meanwhile, Gua Tempurung (Tempurung Caves) and Kellie’s Castle are famous amongst adventure enthusiasts and the heritage community. HOGA Gaharu Tea Valley is a MoTAC MyTQA-certified agropark that promotes products such as herbal tea with various health benefits.
