Announcement: Voices of Our Heart 2017
In conjunction with World Mental Health Day which falls on 10th Oct annually, ‘Voices of Our Heart’ campaign is being organised by the Perak Leo Clubs, headed by District 308 B2 (Malaysia) Leo Cabinet. Joining hands with them are Ipoh Parade Mall and Befrienders Perak.
Mental disorders are not uncommon and can be very complex. Depression and anxiety are often overlooked even though they disrupt our daily lives and affect our ability to function. Survey has found that one in four people may suffer from mental health problems in his or her lifetime. That’s a high 25%.
Globally, over 300 million individuals suffer from depression. The more worrisome thing about mental health issues is that there are many sufferers who continue to remain silent about their condition, rather than seek professional help.
Therefore, ‘Voices of Our Heart’ is creating a platform for a greater discourse, where people are encouraged to speak out instead of keeping it in. With the recent rise of suicide rates across the world, depression is quickly becoming the new silent killer.
The 2009 global suicide report stated that 1.3 out of 100,000 population died from suicide. Although this report is 8 years old and may be inaccurate, isn’t it time to listen to the voices of everyone’s heart before it is too late?
Therefore, let’s participate in the ‘Voices of Our Heart’ campaign at Ipoh Parade Mall on 14th Oct, 2017 (Sat) from 10.30am to 1pm. Mental health talks by key individuals have been lined up, by Dr. Vicky Loo Tsui Huei, Consultant Community Psychiatrist HRPB Ipoh and Dennis Yin, celebrity dancer-cum-Fly FM announcer.
Everyone is welcomed to sit in on the talks and learn about caring for their mental health and on how to start that conversation with their loved ones.
Throughout the day, mental health screenings and consultations are available for shoppers. There is also a mini exhibition on mental health at the mall’s Main Atrium, from today until Sunday.
The campaign is supported by the Psychiatry and Mental Health Department of Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun as well as the Faculty of Arts and Social Science of Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).

It is a good thing to share this kind of information with the mass. And to help the cause, we should be caring for all around us.
This is so inspiring! It is great to have this kind of campaign.
depression is one of the silent killers. This is actually one good campaign to remind society about the importance of the mental health in life.
Great awareness for mental health issues. Depression is not just normal sad or upset, a lot of people who are facing depression can’t even talk to close ones about it because we don’t have the awareness for it.
Love the initiative! Very inspiring and motivating. Good to let this affected know help is always there. Didn’t know Zhen Huang is now in Fly FM too
Great initiative.. I have depression from a lot of things happening and sometimes, it is demotivating and sometimes, people just do not understand….
mental health is so very important nowadays, especially from the stress of everyday life. Taking care of it, and identifying if any disorders or depression exists can be a good way of helping those in need.
I’m in need.
