Announcement: Sharpened Word Literary Matinee (Feb 20)
The monthly Sharpened Word Literary Matinee is back for its fifth edition this coming Saturday on Feb 20.
During the third Saturday afternoon of every month, three or four writers are brought together to Sepaloh Arts Centre, Ipoh, to share with the audience their literary journey.
The objective is to celebrate the literary arts through a community event where writers can connect with their listeners.
The panellists could be amateur writers or illustrious authors in various media. Whatever their level of competency, everyone has a story to share, and there is usually a lesson to take away from another person’s experience.
The writers will first read from their work and then participate in a Q & A session on the writing process with the audience.
This month’s Sharpened Word will see four different writers sharing their work: Alexandra Wong, Chua Kok Yee, Tany Harris and Ted Mashun.
Alexandra Wong, or Alex in short, is a household name. Prefers to be known as an independent professional writer, she is a published author with her book, Made in Malaysia: Stories of Hometown Heroes and Hidden Gems.
It is mainly a compilation of articles from her column, Navel Gazer, in The Star.
Chua Kok Yee, author of ‘Without Anchovies’, is a short story writer with horror and dark fantasy elements, while Tany Harris is a blogger and writer with a flair for local arts.
Last but not least, there is Ted Mahsun, a science fiction writer, blogger and e-book publisher.
As you can see, all four writers have taken on different literary journeys and they definitely have a wealth of experience to share.
What’s interesting to me is that all four of them are from Ipoh. Yeah, we are a pretty creative bunch, if I may say so!

Great platform for the author to share their stories to the public. It’s a means of interaction between author and reader as well.
