Announcement: Sharpened Word Literary Happenings (June 18)

The monthly Sharpened Word Literary Matinee is back for its ninth edition this coming Saturday on June 18.

During the third Saturday afternoon of every month, three or four writers are brought together in Old Andersonians’ Club to share with the audience their literary journey.

The objective is to celebrate the literary arts through a community event where writers can connect with their listeners.

The panellists could be amateur writers or illustrious authors in various media. Whatever their level of competency, everyone has a story to share, and there is usually a lesson to take away from another person’s experience.

The writers will first read from their work and then participate in a Q & A session on the writing process with the audience.

This month’s Sharpened Word will see four panellists sharing their work. They are: Melizarani T. Selva, Fa Abdul, Marco Ferrarese and Nur Hanim Khairuddin.

Melizarani T. Selva is a spoken word poet, storyteller and journalist from Kuala Lumpur. Her rhymes are drawn from her wild curiosity in taboos. She is the organiser of KL’s monthly open mic, ‘If Walls Could Talk’.

Fa Abdul is a passionate storyteller, columnist, playwright and media trainer. Well-known for her charm and sarcasm, Fa Abdul is a complex individual who gets bored easily. According to her, she is a ‘certified loner’.

European metal punk guitarist, world commuter and freelance travel write, that’s Marco Ferrarese. Asia is currently home to him. Marco is resolute in bringing danger back into literature. He has written articles on travel, culture and extreme music in Asia for many international publications.

Last but not least is Nur Hanim Khairuddin, an artist and independent curator based in Ipoh. She is the editor-in-chief of sentAp!, a quarterly bilingual publication founded in 2005.

As you will notice, this edition of Sharpened Word will see diverse levels of experience among the writers, who have taken on different literary journeys and they definitely have a wealth of experience to share.
