An Evening With Simon Callaghan

Maestro Simon Callaghan mesmerised his audience in Ipoh with his flawless solo piano concert last Saturday, and I am very lucky to have witnessed that. For those who do not know, Simon is a highly acclaimed international classical pianist from the UK who was recently appointed as a Steinway Artist!

During Simon’s concert in Ipoh, his repertoire included:

Bach: Partita in C minor BWV826
Debussy: Images Book I
Chopin: Barcarolle Op.60
Schumann: Carnaval Op.9

I understand it will be the same for his recital in Petaling Jaya this coming 26th of August.

So for those of you who have missed Simon Callaghan’s concert in Ipoh, make sure to catch the one in Petaling Jaya. According to Grade 7 piano student, David Lim, it was a rare opportunity to get a piano recital of such quality in Malaysia. You really don’t want to miss this chance. In fact, I am thinking of attending it a second time!

Photography and any form of recording were strictly prohibited during the concert in Ipoh. Rightly so, as this would distract the pianist from giving his full concentration on the task at hand. Worry not, as a photography-cum-autograph session would be held right after the concert. In addition, Simon’s latest CD, English Piano Works, would be on sale and this is a good opportunity to get it autographed by the maestro himself!
