Ipoh-born soprano Lee Yi Jing will be headlining a charity concert, If I Sing, on 3rd September, 2016 at The Haven Resort Hotel & Residences. The Haven is the main sponsor of the event.
If you recall, Yi Jing was the Blue Fairy in last year’s “Storybook of Princesses” production. She graduated with Diploma in Music from the Malaysian Institute of Art in 2013. Her list of accolades is long and it includes a Gold award at the China – Asean Arts Festival 2013 which was hosted in Singapore. She is currently studying at Universiti Putra Malaysia.
Also performing at the charity concert are Jream Cheah (baritone), Wong Vi Vien (pianist), Kenny Lee (saxophonist) and Liew Chen Shen (accompanist). While Yi Jing renders classical pieces, the musicians will mainly play songs from Broadway.
This charity concert is organised by Friends of Perak Women For Women (PWW), where all proceeds from said concert are donated to PWW, a non-profit organisation that aims to enhance the status and lives of women in Perak, regardless of race, religion or social background. The main challenge faced by PWW is maintaining temporary board and lodging for women and children in crisis.
As such, the organisers are appealing for support to help the women not only to get out of abusive relationships but also develop a sense of self-worth that is essential in achieving success.
