6th IMT-GT Ipoh Cultural Festival 2023
Ipoh City Council (MBI) organised the Ipoh Cultural Festival 2023 to celebrate delegates from Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand in conjunction with “The 6th IMT-GT (Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle) Green Cities Mayor Council Meeting (GCMC) and Chief Ministers & Governors Forum (CMGF)”.
The significant event was attended by Ipoh City Mayor Y.Bhg Dato’ Haji Rumaizi Baharin @ Md.Daud; Mayor of Hatyai (Thailand) Pol.Lt.Gen.Sakorn Thongmunee; Mayor of Thungsong Municipality (Thailand) Mr. Songchai Watcharadamrong; Mayor of Seremban (Malaysia) Y.Bhg. Dato Masri bin Razali; Head of Cooperation Division, Kota Pekan Baru (Indonesia) Mr. Dedi Damhudi; and Ipoh City Council Secretary Tuan Ahmad Munir Ishak.
The joyful evening featured cultural persentations of various races namely: Malay, Indian plus Chinese, performed by Selangkah Dance Group, Anggini Dancers Teluk Intan Perak and Ipoh Wushu Lion & Dragon Dance Quan Ji Association respectively.
By the way, IMT-GT ignites prosperity through regional collaboration. The Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle is a dynamic economic cooperation that has transformed the landscape of Southeast Asia’s trade, investment, and development. This initiative was founded on the principles of cooperation, connectivity, including shared prosperity.
IMT-GT serves as a testament to the potential unleashed when neighbouring nations collaborate towards common goals. The blueprint for growth which was initiated in 1993, IMT-GT aims to accelerate economic growth and development of the border nations of Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand. The blueprint outlines strategies for enhancing trade, investment, infrastructure, and socio-economic development across the growth triangle.
Three countries, one vision. IMT-GT envisions a harmonious and prosperous region where trade flourishes and investment opportunities abound, while people-to-people connections thrive. With its focus on enhancing connectivity, simultaneously removing barriers, IMT-GT seeks to create an integrated economic zone that benefits all three nations.
IMT-GT promotes cross-border trade by simplifying customs procedures, reducing tariffs, and facilitating the movement of goods. The initiative supports Small and Medium Entrepreneurs (SMEs) by providing platforms for networking and business collaboration. Boosting connectivity along with infrastructure development is a cornerstone of IMT-GT’s success. Projects ranging from transportation networks to information, besides communication technology linkages are aimed at improving regional connectivity, thus reducing logistical barriers.

It’s amazing to see delegates from Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand coming together to celebrate and promote cooperation. The performances by Selangkah Dance Group, Anggini Dancers Teluk Intan Perak, and Ipoh Wushu Lion & Dragon Dance Quan Ji Association must have been absolutely mesmerizing!
And how cool is it that this event coincided with Visit Ipoh Year? That’s definitely a great way to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Ipoh. The video montage of IMT-GT must have been a fantastic addition to the festival, highlighting the economic collaboration between the three countries.
