2023 Ipoh City Councillors Swearing-in Ceremony
A total of 24 Ipoh city councillors took their oaths this morning in a closed-door event at the Ipoh City Council office. Their term of office began on 16th February 2023 and will last until 15th February 2024.
The swearing-in ceremony was witnessed by both the Perak local government committee chairperson YB Sandrea Ng Shy Ching and Ipoh City Mayor YBhg. Dato’ Rumaizi Baharin, who himself was sworn in as the mayor for the new term.
In her speech, YB Sandrea called upon the newly appointed city councilors to carry out their duties responsibly and effectively at their respective zones by working closely together not only within the city council but also with other agencies at the state and federal levels.
She said, “The Local Authority (PBT), as a third-level government, plays a crucial role today beyond maintaining roads, drains, and public facilities. Without a doubt, Ipoh City Council’s scope of duties has expanded with the increasing awareness of the community of the facilities and services that they should receive. Social media as a delivery medium provides greater challenges to the Local Authorities in serving customer demands, therefore, a collaborative effort to improve the government’s delivery system to the people and bring high-impact results is needed.”
The ceremony was attended by Members of Parliament, State Assemblypersons, Senior Directors, Department Heads, and Ipoh City Council officers. Of the 24 new Ipoh City Councillors, 5 are from Barisan Nasional, 11 from Democratic Action Party, 6 from Parti Keadilan Rakyat, and 2 from Amanah. Only 4 are women. Their zones have yet to be released.
