3000 Flood Ipoh’s CNY Musical Concert at DR Park’s Amphitheatre
3000 Ipohites flooded the Amphitheatre, Laman Sejahtera, at Taman DR Seenivasagam last night to witness the city’s first-ever Chinese New Year musical performance to usher in the Year of the Dragon.

YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, Minister of Housing and Local Government, launched the musical concert alongside the park’s new lighting and boating activity by releasing koi fish into the pond.

Also present at the momentous event were Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud, Mayor of Ipoh; YB Jenny Choy, Deputy Speaker of the Perak State Legislative Assembly; YB Tuan Loh Sze Yee, Chairman of the Perak State Tourism, Industry, Investment, and Corridor Development Committee; YB Howard Lee, Ipoh Timur Member of Parliament; Cllr. Tuan Wong Kar Keat, Head of WHIP MBI Councillor; Tuan Ahmad Munir bin Ishak, Council Secretary; Ipoh City Councillors and other dignitaries.


Various performances were lined up, such as LED dragon & lion dances, Chinese drums, traditional dances, Chinese singing and orchestral music, wrapping up with a 15-minute fireworks display.


The Amphitheatre was built on 1st July 2021 and fully completed on 1st March 2023. The project’s objective was to utilise the open space of Taman D.R. Seenivasagam next to an artificial lake.


The Amphitheatre is an open stage and can accommodate up to 800 spectators, making it suitable for entertainment and art shows in line with the recognition of Ipoh as a City of Music by the UNESCO Creative Cities Network (UCCN) on 31st October 2023.


The Amphitheatre is a focal point for music and arts promotion, becoming a new destination for local and foreign visitors.
The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) has channelled an allocation of RM250,000 to upgrade and improve the lighting around the Amphitheatre, including in the lake area facing the Amphitheatre to create a more comfortable and safe environment for visitors at night.


YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming, through the National Landscape Department of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government, has allocated an additional RM500,000. Meanwhile, the Ipoh City Council has committed RM250,000, for a total of RM750,000.
At the same event, YB Tuan Nga Kor Ming also announced an allocation of RM500,000 to proceed with Phase 2 of Gerbang Malam.

He also shared the good news that Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB) has pledged to spend RM8 to RM10 million to upgrade the Sultan Azlan Shah Airport. These upgrade works will be completed by Chinese New Year 2025, improving the current passenger capacity of 500,000 to 600,000.
