Bazar CNY at Lorong Seni @ Lorong Panglima Launched
Tourism in Ipoh Old Town to be developed in stages according to Perak State Tourism ExCo, YB Loh Sze Yee.
Modest in scale with 15 vendors at Bazar CNY, it was by design, said the Chairman of Tourism, Industry, Investment & Corridor Development Committee of the Perak State Government YB Loh Sze Yee. The reason for this control was to avoid a negative impact on existing businesses in Ipoh Old Town, a vibrant commercial centre.
This was shared when YB Loh inaugurated the Bazar CNY Chinese New Year programme at Lorong Seni @ Lorong Panglima this morning. The event was organised by Tourism Perak in collaboration with the Ipoh City Council.
The notable occasion was also attended by Ipoh City Mayor Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi bin Baharin@Md Daud, Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Perak Cik Nurmalis Musa and other tourism players.
Kicked off by a lively double-lion dance courtesy of the troupe from Ipoh Chin Woo Athletic Association, the morning activities included entertaining stage performances. Bazar CNY is part of the continuous initiative to liven up the city for Visit Ipoh Year 2023 and as a run-up to Visit Perak Year 2024, followed by Visit Malaysia Year 2025.
Meanwhile, Ipoh City Mayor Y.Bhg. Dato’ Rumaizi clarified that while plans to develop Ipoh Tourism Triangle are ongoing, the existing heritage architecture will be preserved. Other landmarks within the Ipoh Tourism Triangle, besides Ipoh Old Town, are Gunung Lang, Taman DR Seenivasagam and Ipoh Padang.
Citing London as a point of reference, the Mayor said, “The façades of old buildings are retained but the interiors are renovated in line with contemporary tastes.”
