A Visit to Moh Kee Birdnest in Sitiawan, Perak
One of the pioneer producers of bird’s nests in Manjung area, Moh Kee Birdnest was established in the 1990s in Sitiawan, the capital of Malaysian bird’s nests.
With almost three decades of experience in the bird’s nest business, Moh Kee first began with bird’s nest ranching, followed by trading, and eventually, upgrading to a processing centre.
This progression has placed Moh Kee Birdnest as the first one-stop processing plant of bird’s nests in Perak state. With this status, Moh Kee is the foremost company to have obtained approval and accreditation from the Certification & Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA) to export birdnest to China. That was in the year 2018.
Today, Moh Kee Birdnest has approximately 20 birdhouses in Perak, i.e., Sitiawan, Ayer Tawar, and Sungai Siput. 60 workers are required to handle the production of 200kg bird’s nests a month. The bird’s nests are manually cleaned. Additionally, Moh Kee Birdnest has a production facility in Bercham, Ipoh that produces their latest product: freeze-dried bird’s nests.
Currently, besides its headquarters in Sitiawan, Moh Kee Birdnest has four other outlets; one each in Petaling Jaya and Sabah, two in China: Shenzhen and Shanghai. In Malaysia, all Moh Kee’s bird’s nest products are Halal-certified.
Moh Kee Birdnest updates its website with the Raw Uncleaned Edible Bird’s Nest (RUC EBN) Index on the 1st and 15th of every month, according to the latest market price fluctuation.
Note: Our visit to Moh Kee Birdnest was facilitated by the Manjung Municipal Council and Councillor, Clr HW Ding, during International IPOH Fashion Week (IIFW): Season 5.0.
