Casuarina @ Meru Hotel Launches Smiley Campaign Highlighting Perak Culture
In conjunction with Visit Perak Year 2024, Casuarina @ Meru Hotel (HCM) has recently launched a Smiley Campaign at the Casuarina Convention Centre. The campaign, themed “Where Hospitality Shines Bright” showcased a lively and friendly atmosphere while highlighting the local elements of nicknames in the Perak dialect.
The Smiley Campaign aims to instil warmth and virtue in every guest and visitor, thus creating a positive experience. All HCM employees will wear custom button badges with nicknames or “timangan” in Perak dialect such as, “Yong Siha”, “Yeop Pudin”, “Long Jaapor” and so on during the whole of 2024. Guests who are not from Perak will be able to increase their knowledge of the distinctive culture of the state.
When visitors arrive at HCM, they will be greeted with friendly smiles from the staff. They don’t only act as hotel employees, but are also ambassadors who represent the friendly nature of Perakians. Through this experience, visitors will share with the public orally, create indirect publicity among the local people, and subsequently bring in more business to the state of Perak. HCM’s aspiration is not only to provide the best service but also to reflect the spirit of this interesting local culture of Perak, in line with the upcoming Year of Visiting Perak 2024.
The campaign started with a welcome speech from the General Manager of Hotel Casuarina @ Meru, Sabrina Ahmad Tah to the guests. She said, “Perak enjoy diverse cultural influences. Perak Malays speak various dialects. The most common dialect is Perak Malay which is known with the sound “e” (as in the word “leka”) and the sound “r” which is similar to the sound “r” in French. Perak Malay is usually spoken in Central Perak, more specifically in Kuala Kangsar and Central Perak districts.
According to Sabrina, this campaign will highlight the unique culture of Perak and improve the quality of customer service at HCM. She added, “The local dialect is an important identity of a community because it reflects the history and unique values of an individual. Dialects can also bring a sense of belonging and a close relationship with the community.”
Known for her dedication to providing first-class hospitality, Sabrina said, the Smiley Campaign is expected to result in a 30% increase in positive reviews from in-house and walk-in guests to boost tourism activities in Perak. HCM is committed to making Perak a preferred destination for tourists from within and outside the country.
The state of Perak is a region that has a lot of potential, including its thriving manufacturing sector and abundant natural resources. Its tourism sector is actively driving investment and job opportunities. Perak remains one of the destinations that promises a meaningful experience and is heading towards becoming a hub for industrial development in the country.
HCM Smiley Campaign was launched during the media appreciation night hosted by the hotel’s parent company, Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Perak (PKNPk). Guests were treated to a scrumptious barbeque dinner, with the theme “Havana, ooh na-na”. Lucky guests also walked away with generous prizes from the hosts.
