Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary
Forming part of the Matang Forest Reserve, Kuala Gula Bird Sanctuary is one of the top destinations for avid bird-watchers because more than fifty species of migratory birds can be spotted here.
However, bird-watching is a seasonal sport, and it depends on a lot of luck as well, because I have known some friends who had done all the required homework and were still unsuccessful.
The season to watch birds in this area is from August to April, in the early morning, when birds make the annual migration from the north to as far south as Australia to avoid the cold.
Bird-watchers who are interested on a trip out to the estuary of Kuala Gula should contact Kuala Gula Sanctuary Resort. Reservation is required.
Depending on your boatman, each trip could last some 1.5 hours, or longer.
