Tham, who is in his 60s, graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore in 1971 and has been painting for more than forty years now. At this sixth solo exhibition recently, Tham showcased about fifty mainly watercolour paintings, with price tags ranging from RM3,000 to RM20,000. Most of the paintings depicted Tham’s favourite subjects – tin mines and natural landscapes like mountains. Similar to Loo Win, he doesn’t have a favourite medium but prefers to use watercolour for outdoor painting due to convenience.

Tham shared with me one of his most treasured art pieces, his graduating piece showing a group of tin mine workers. He has been keeping it for over 40 years and has no plans to sell it.
