Sumptuous 9-Course Pork-Free Chinese New Year Reunion Dinner from RM988+

Ipoh’s Hotel Excelsior also offers a buffet option for Lunar New Year’s Eve at RM88+ per pax (adult).

With the Lunar New Year just around the corner, procrastinators like yours truly are searching high and low for restaurants that still can accommodate table bookings for Chinese course dinner, that begins with prosperity yee sang.

At this time of publishing, Hotel Excelsior’s Palace Restaurant is still open for booking at their Aquamarine Hall on the 5th floor, with a maximum capacity of 30 tables.

There are three sumptuous 9-course menus available, priced at RM988+ (Menu A), RM1188+ (Menu B) and RM1488+ (Menu C). Good for a table of ten, each menu kickstarts with Thousand Prosperity Yee Sang for Menus A & B, and Snow Pear Yee Sang for Menu C.

Each menu includes all the auspicious Chinese New Year food items, albeit served with differing preparations, according to the menu selected. Among others, there’s a whole chicken, grouper, prawns, abalone, and sweet dessert to wrap up the all-important Chinese New Year reunion dinner.

For smaller families or groups of friends, it’s better to opt for the Chinese New Year’s Eve buffet dinner, at the hotel’s Dulang Coffee House on the Ground Floor. Available only on 21st January 2023 from 6.30pm until 10.30pm, prices are as follows: RM88+ (adult), RM48+ (child 5-12 years) and RM68+ (senior 60 years and above).

As with any buffet, this Chinese New Year’s Eve buffet dinner will have starters, soup, main courses, action stalls, carving stations and desserts, but to fit the festive season, Yee Sang is also one of the items on the menu. There’s also the Mandarin Orange Salad, which is not offered at other times.

Celebrants who prefer to dine in the comfort of home can reduce the hassle of home cooking by taking away selected dishes. Palace Restaurant’s Thousand Prosperity Yee Sang is going for RM68+ (small) or RM88+ (big). The premium version of Yee Sang that comes with slices of abalone goes for RM168+.

Another dish that’s available for takeaway is Steamed Rice with Waxed Chicken Meat at RM88+. Do take note that for either the Yee Sang or this Steamed Rice, advanced booking is required.

For the convenience of out-of-town guests, a special Chinese New Year room package has been drawn up and is available from now until 31st January 2023.
